Rabbis to US Ambassador: US Shooting Itself in Foot over PA
by Yoni Kempinski
18 december 2011, Kislev 22, 5772
A delegation of the Rabbinical Congress for Peace (RCP) met with U.S. Ambassador to Israel Daniel Shapiro on Thursday and called for a reassessment of the entire U.S. policy vis-à-vis the Israelis and Palestinians.
“The two state solution will never work and will only lead to increased terror and bloodshed. By promoting the establishment of a Palestinian state the U.S. is only shooting itself in the foot," the rabbis told the Ambassador.
Members of the delegation told Arutz Sheva that the Ambassador said that the two-state solution was not a U.S. initiative but one that was initiated and promoted by the last four Israeli governments.
“We did not pressure Prime Minister Netanyahu to accept the establishment of a Palestinian state alongside Israel." Shapiro said. "Our goal - and Israel’s goal as well – is to get both sides to the negotiating table. They should negotiate by themselves without the help of a third party.” The rabbis heard Shapiro state, "The United States, in no uncertain terms, considers Hamas a terror organization, and there can be no negotiations with the organization."
Rabbi Jospeh Gerlitzky, Chairman of the RCP said that the organization "was founded in 1993 in order to alert public attention to Israel’s failed formula of 'territories for peace.'"
He added, "For the last 18 years, we’ve been making gestures, giving them land and other vital resources and what did we get in return? Terror and more terror, precisely from those territories that we surrendered. It’s time to stop this foolishness.
"The only solution to the problem is as delineated in the Halachic Ruling based on the Jewish Code of Law Chapter 329 signed by over 350 of the most prominent rabbis in Israel, that the value of Jewish life supersedes every other value", explained Rabbi Gerlitzky, "Therefore, when foreigners want to enter Jewish border towns, and state that their purpose is only to pick up straw and pebbles, one must violate the Sabbath and stop them militarily becuase if you will allow them one inch it will ultimately lead to the conquest of the entire land."
Rabbi Avrohom Shmuel Lewin, Director of the RCP, told the Ambassador that for the last 45 years the word 'peace' in the context of the Arab-Israeli conflict has become synonymous with "Israeli withdrawal."
“Unfortunately the past 45 years have proven without a shadow of a doubt that the 'land for peace' formula is nothing but an exercise in futility and it’s about time to change course,” he added. Rabbi Lewin quoted Defense Minister Ehud Barak last week at a conference in Vienna, who said, “We disengaged from Gaza and got 10,000 missiles in return.”
Rabbi Moshe Havlin, Chief Rabbi of Kiryat Gat, spoke of "the living hell the disengagement from Gaza brought to Kiryat Ga," adding, “We never felt this way before the disengagement. There are over 50 American and students in the Yeshiva in Kiryat Gat but a month ago we were forced to close it down temporarily because of the missiles attack. I have an 18-month-old grand daughter who is gripped with fright hysteria every time she hears a siren alerting that a missile is on its way."
Rabbi Sholom Gold told Ambassador Shapiro that it seems senior officials in the administration “just don’t get it.” He was referring to Defense Secretary Leon Panetta’s statement last week at the Saban forum that called on Israel to make bold steps.
In the spirit of Chanukah which celebrates the victory of a few over many, the rabbis presented the Ambassador with a Chanukah Menorah.
U.S., Britain, Canada Announce New Iran Sanctions
by Elad Benari
30 november 2011, Kislev 4, 5772
The United States, Britain and Canada have all announced a new set of tougher sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program.
The announcements are in accordance with an earlier report which said that Western countries are preparing such sanctions.
http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/149950#.TtV0MNWvkVo
The Associated Press reported that the American sanctions target Iran’s oil and petrochemicals industry and Iranian companies involved in nuclear procurement or enrichment activity.
The U.S. has also declared Iran’s banking system a center for money laundering, a way of warning financial institutions around the world to think twice before doing business with Tehran.
“Iran has chosen the path of international isolation,” President Barack Obama said in a statement on Monday. “As long as Iran continues down this dangerous path, the United States will continue to find ways, both in concert with our partners and through our own actions to isolate and increase the pressure upon the Iranian regime.”
Meanwhile, the British Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, said that all UK credit and financial institutions had to cease trading with Iran’s banks starting Monday afternoon, according to a report on the BBC.
“We believe that the Iranian regime’s actions pose a significant threat to the UK’s national security and the international community,” Osborne was quoted as having said. “Today’s announcement is a further step to preventing the Iranian regime from acquiring nuclear weapons.”
It is the first time the UK has cut off a country’s banking sector in this way, the BBC noted.
Canada has also announced measures against the Islamic Republic. Government House Leader Peter Van Loan said on Monday that among other measures, Canada will “block virtually all transactions with Iran, including those with the Central Bank.”
“The regime in Iran poses a significant threat to regional and global peace,” Van Loan was quoted by CTV News as having said. “We will do what it takes to isolate the regime and to minimize the risk that it poses.”
A statement from Canada’s Foreign Affairs Department said the sanctions also include expanding the list of items that cannot be exported to Iran to include all goods used in the petrochemical, oil and gas industry.
The Canadian government will also be expanding the list of individuals Canadians can no longer conduct business with, CTV reported.
The sanctions follow a November 8 report by the U.N. International Atomic Energy Agency that made it clear Iran's nuclear development program is not intended solely for peaceful domestic purposes, as it has claimed. The report detailed evidence that Iranian scientists are producing nuclear warheads to be fitted on to Shahab-3 long-range missiles. The Shahab-3 is able to reach the State of Israel.

Clinton Endorses Negotiations With Terrorists
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday to congratulate him on his deal with Hamas for the release of Gilad Shalit.
http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/148707#.TqVKDLJqzWJ
Clinton reportedly told Netanyahu the decision took "courage and leadership."
For his part Netanyahu thanked Clinton for her well-wishes and said that it was a difficult decision for him, being a moment where leadership is tested.
Observers say Clinton's sentiments are particularly surprising given the enduring and iron-clan policy of the United States against negotiating with terrorists, instead preferring to mount rescue operations where viable, or to leave captured citizens in captivity.
Clinton's call came after Netanyahu's government approved a deal to exchange kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit, who has been held by Hamas for nearly six years, for 1,027 terrorists from Israeli jails.
Meanwhile, IDF chief of staff Benny Gantz and IDF Head of Personnel, General Orna Barbibay, met Thursday with the Shalit family to update them on the technical details of the deal. Reportedly, Hamas will transfer Shalit to Egypt, who will in turn, transfer him to Israel.
US Helps Pay PA Terrorists Who Murdered Americans
by Gil Ronen
28 september 2011. Elul 29, 5771
Every single Palestinian Authority terrorist held in an Israeli jail receives a monthly salary from the PA. Terrorists who committed the most heinous crimes – and therefore received longer sentences – receive the most money, according to a report in Israeli paper Yisrael Hayom.
Citing a report received by a senior government official in Jerusalem, the paper says that the terrorists' salaries are paid from the PA's "public budget," which accounts for about 3.5 percent of its total budget.
The PA treasury receives cash from two main sources: the US pays about 50 percent of the money, and the rest is mostly from European Union member nations.
Prisoners who were jailed for periods of up to five years receive 1,400 to 2,000 NIS per month. However, terrorists serving 10 to 15 years receive 6,000 shekels, the ones serving 15 to 20 years receive 10,000 shekels, and those serving 20 to 30 years get 12,000 shekels. These are people who planned, directed and took part in the intentional sadistic slaughter of civilian men, women and children, at point blank range.
Since some of the victims of PA terror are American citizens, the information means that US taxpayers pay monthly salaries to the people who murdered their fellow citizens. The latest US citizen who was a victim of PA terror is Ben Yosef Livnat, who was gunned down in Shechem.

The terrorists' wives and children receive additional cash, and prisoners with Israel citizenship get a bonus.
NY Police Arrest Rabbi and Five Other Pro-Israel Activists
by Fern Sidman, INN NY correspondent and Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu
September 21, 2011, Elul 22, 5771
New York police arrest a rabbi and five other activists who blocked traffic in a protest against the Palestinian Authority bid for unilateral United Nations recognition at the United Nations annual General Assembly.
They were arrested during a rally co-sponsored by Americans For a Safe Israel (AFSI) and Amcha that drew more than 35 people, many of whom also stood in street with them. Police took into custody Rabbi Avi Weiss, director of Amcha-Coalition for Jewish Concerns, In addition to Rabbi Weiss, who is also senior rabbi at the Hebrew Institute of Riverdale, and Helen Freedman of AFSI, Cheryl Jacobs Lewin, chairwoman of AFSI's Chicago chapter, Miriam Prince; Sarah Rosenbaum; and Glenn Richter.
Holding aloft large Israeli and American flags and signs declaring "Shame On the UN For Demonizing and Delegitimizing Israel!" and "We Support Israel", the rally participants chanted "Am Yisrael Chai" (the Jewish people live), as police began to handcuff and lead the six demonstrators to a nearby paddy wagon. They were brought to the 17th precinct in Midtown Manhattan were they were booked on charges of disorderly conduct.
Pointing to the UN building looming in the background, Rabbi Weiss told the demonstrators, who gathered in the heavy rain, “Today we are sitting in the street to tell this den of evil that they will be responsible for the violence that will, G-d forbid, take place in Israel as a result of this move to legitimize a state that clearly does not want peace. If the New York City police really "got it", they wouldn't be arresting us who represent the Jewish voice of consciousness and those who speak truth to power, but they'd be arresting Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who is guilty of murdering countless numbers of his own people and who threatens genocide against the Jewish state."
Glenn Richter, a former leader of the Student Struggle for Soviet Jewry organization and a leading spokesman for Jewish causes, declared, "There can be no business as usual at the United Nations while it continues to demonize and delegitimize Israel, endorse a unilateral Palestinian declaration of statehood, and welcome the evil Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.”
Also attending the rally was Rabbi Joseph Potasnik, executive director of New York Board of Rabbis, who said, "Given the choice between being part of an immoral majority or moral minority, I'd rather be part of the minority than the majority which meets in the UN and makes Israel too often the guilty party. There's a Yiddish saying which translates, 'fear G-d, not people'. We're here because of what people may sometimes do to us, and that's why we have to be so vocal."
Saying that she was mortified by the abject silence of the Jewish establishment organizations in lieu of the impending UN vote to create a Palestinian state predicated on a terrorist doctrine, Freedman said before being arrested, "Incomprehensibly, the major Jewish organizations have chosen to stay away from the battle. Is it spinelessness or mindlessness?"
Turning her attention to the existential threat that a Palestinian state would present for Israel, she added that PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas unilateral efforts to have a PA state declared at the UN are “reprehensible and incredibly dangerous for Israel.“
“Iran's Ahmadinejad should not be permitted into this country, not in New York City and certainly not in our streets, restaurants, and universities, while he is threatening the western world with nuclear war,” she added. “The Durban III denunciations of Israel should not be tolerated. The entire purpose of the United Nations has been turned upside down."
GOP Slams Obama on Israel
by Elad Benari
May 20, 2011, lyar 16, 5771
Members of the U.S. Republican party, some of them presidential hopefuls, on Thursday sharply criticized President Barack Obama’s speech on the Middle East and accused him of betraying Israel.
http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/144336
“President Obama has thrown Israel under the bus,” Former Massachusetts governor and potential 2012 presidential candidate Mitt Romney said in a statement quoted on Politico.com. “He has disrespected Israel and undermined its ability to negotiate peace. He has also violated a first principle of American foreign policy, which is to stand firm by our friends.”
Romney, who is well acquainted with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, visited Israel in January. http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/141748
Minnesota House member Michele Bachmann also responded to the presidential speech, saying on her Twitter account that Obama had “betrayed our friend and ally Israel. Obama’s call for 1967 borders will cause chaos, division & more aggression in Middle East and put Israel at further risk.”
Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty, also a potential Republican candidate for the presidency, called Obama’s call for Israel return to the so-called ‘1967 borders’ – the 1949 Armistice Lines which are considered indefensible by defense experts – “a mistaken a very dangerous demand.”
In a statement quoted in Politico, Pawlenty said that “the city of Jerusalem must never be re-divided. To send a signal to the Palestinians that America will increase its demands on our ally Israel, on the heels of the Palestinian Authority’s agreement with the Hamas terrorist organization, is a disaster waiting to happen. At this time of upheaval in the Middle East, it's never been more important for America to stand strong for Israel and for a united Jerusalem.”
Florida Republican Allen West also blasted Obama’s speech in a statement he released and which was quoted by Newsmax:
“Today’s endorsement by President Barack Obama of the creation of a Hamas-led Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, signals the most egregious foreign policy decision his administration has made to date, and could be the beginning of the end as we know it for the Jewish state,” said West.
“The pre-1967 borders endorsed by President Obama would deny millions of the world’s Jews access to their holiest site and force Israel to return the strategically important Golan Heights to Syria, a known state-sponsor of terrorism,” he added and emphasized that “there has always been a Nation of Israel and Jerusalem has been and must always be recognized as its rightful capital.”
West also said that “the Hamas-run Palestinian state envisioned by President Obama would be devastating to Israel and the world’s 13.3 million Jews. It would be a Pavlovian style reward to a declared Islamic terrorist organization, and an unacceptable policy initiative.” He called for the United States to “never negotiate with the Palestinian Authority- which has aligned itself with Hamas.”
West called on the American people “to stand by our strongest ally, the Jewish State of Israel, and reject this foreign policy blunder of epic proportions…The President should focus on the real obstacle to security- the Palestinian leadership and its ultimate goal to eliminate Israel and the Jewish people.”
In his speech at the State Department, Obama called for “two states for two peoples” with permanent borders based on the “1967 lines with agreed upon swaps,” basically accepting Abbas' preconditons. He said that the PA state should be contiguous and that Jerusalem and the refugees would be negotiated later..
“Our policy is two states for two peoples,” Obama said. “Israel as a Jewish state for the Jewish people. Palestine as a Palestinian state for the Palestinian people. A viable Palestine; a secure Israel.” The 1967 lines are indefensible, responded Netanyahu.
http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/144338
The president called on PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas to recognize Israel as a Jewish state and maintained that the PA state be demilitarized. He rejected unilateral moves by Palestinian Authority leaders to achieve a declaration of statehood outside of negotiations in the United Nations in September, saying efforts to isolate Israel in the UN, and delegitimize Israel, won't achieve statehood.
New York Rally: Israel has Rights Too
by Larry Dominitch
March 28, 2011, Adar Bet 22, 5771
The Israeli Consulate on 2nd Ave. and 42nd Street in New York City was the scene of a major show of support for Israel on Sunday, March 27th.
Over 200 people attended the rally in support of Israel's right to protect its citizens against Arab terror. It was also held as a memorial to the victims of the most recent terror attacks - the five members of the Fogel family of Itamar, and UK citizen Mary Jane Gardner from Yad HaShmonah, who was killed in the Jerusalem bombing.
Israeli flags and posters declaring support for Israel were held high to cheers, well-wishers, and supportive honking of automobile horns from many passersby headed down 2nd. Ave.
The group was led by Rabbi Avi Weiss and joined by the mayor of Itamar, Rabbi Moshe Goldsmith, and his wife Leah. Many attended with their prayerbooks and Israeli flags.
The event was sponsored by a host of Jewish organizations working together, including Amcha: Coalition for Jewish Concerns, Americans For a Safe Israel, Zionist Organization America, Stand With Us, Z-Street, Russian American Jewish Experience, Human Rights Coalition Against Radical Islam, Dor Chadash, Jewish International Connection New York, Fuel For Truth, One Heart Global, AmbassaDor, and IsraAmerica.
Main rally organizer Hillary Markowitz of Amcha named those injured in the recent Jerusalem bus station attack, and asked, "Where is the outrage? Where is the outcry? Where is President Obama? ... We are here to say that the Jews will stay in Israel. And that we will not sit by quietly!"
Leah Goldsmith, the wife of Itamar’s mayor, stated, “We are at war when people come on Shabbat to slaughter men, women, and children. President Obama has asked the Israeli government to remove the soldiers from the Tapuach junction near us, which protected the Jerusalem-Shechem road. So you got the butchering of a family, then a bombing at a bus stop because the White House thinks that soldiers checking Arabs is a human rights violation."
"Itamar is on a mountain. To the west we can see the skyscrapers of Tel Aviv, and to the east, we see the Jordan Valley. Do you want us, or Hamas, on that mountain?”
Rabbi Avi Weiss, of the Hebrew Institute of Riverdale, addressed the Palestinian Authority: "Israel wants real peace. You must be a real partner. 'Don't speak with a forked tongue'; one way to the western media, and one way to your own people." Rabbi Weiss demanded the PA "stop hate in the media."
He told President Obama that when US officials speak about the "illegality of settlements before negotiating, these kind of statements contribute in their own way to this kind of crime. If you strengthen Israel, you strengthen America. If you weaken Israel, you weaken America."
Itamar's Mayor Goldsmith spoke of the difficulty of leaving his community during these difficult moments, but stressed the need for every Jew to stand up and speak out. “Israel needs every Jew to stand with us. We have for a long time given our lives to build Itamar. The entire world knows G-d gave the land to the Jewish people. The deed to the land is in the Bible... For the sake of Zion, we shall not be silent. For every attack, we will build".
Jacob Kimchi, the son of 2002 terrorism victim Rami Kimchi, the co-founder of One Heart Global whose mission is to assist victims of terror, stated, “I’d like to know if the presidents of the US, Russia, or European countries would allow missiles to bombard their capitals, or suicide bombers to target their civilians.”
Rabbi Weiss led the group in the singing of the popular tune “Lema’an Achai,” whose words mean, “For the sake of my brethren and my friends, I shall speak of peace in your midst” (Psalms 122:7-9).
He also offered prayers for Jonathan Pollard, asking Obama to release him from prison. Prayers were also offered on behalf of Gilad Shalit, held captive for nearly five years by Hamas.
As some of the many measures that can be taken in support of Israel, Markowitz reminded participants to purchase B.I.G. (Buy Israeli Goods) products to counter the anti-Israel boycotts. He encouraged them to visit and support the mock art show on display in Washington Square Park this week.
Participants heard from Elana Benador, Goodwill Ambassador for the Shomron Liaison Office, who said that Israel has had 1,200 victims of terror attacks since the year 2000. "That would be an equivalent of 50,297 Americans, proportionately," she said. During that same period, there have been 8,342 Israelis wounded from terror attacks. "By American standards," she said, "that would mean roughly 350,000 wounded."
The one-and-a-half hour event concluded with prayers on behalf of the State of Israel, followed by the singing of the national anthems of Israel and the U.S.
An American Dream, A Jewish NIghtmare
by Prof. Steve Hochstadt
February 20, 2011, Adar 11, 5771
A new internet cartoon is capturing public interest by explaining the sources of our worldwide financial distress. Using a clever South Park format, “The American Dream” reveals the hidden enemies of naive Americans, and others around the world, who yearn for financial independence – the US Federal Reserve and all national banks.
But lurking in the shadows behind the bland faces of official bankers is the real villain, the one we knew all along was there, the Jew.
“The American Dream” premiered at FreedomFest in July 2010 in Las Vegas, a libertarian-conservative convention. Beginning with a helpless average American who has bought a bigger house and is then foreclosed, the film presents a conspiracy theory about the Fed as the source of all financial evil, aided by the IRS and the Mint.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPWH5TlbloU
According to the film, the Fed is completely uncontrolled by any American people or institutions, and is under the power of foreign bankers. Our taxes do not go to our government, but to others, in “the greatest theft in human history”. The Fed unconstitutionally prints money in order to further enslave Americans through debt. Patriots, who follow the teachings of our founding fathers, must do something right away, “before America is destroyed forever.”
Because antisemites can’t avoid it, there is just a bit of sexism incorporated here. Women appear only as ornaments for the men who do all the business.
In several interviews and comments which can be seen on the web, filmmaker Tad Lumpkin claims his video is a kind of easy substitute for Friedrich Hayek’s “The Road to Serfdom”, the famous philosophical attack on collectivism. But Hayek’s book says little about banks. It appears that “The American Dream” recycles in much more palatable form the claims of the 1998 “documentary” “The Money Masters- How International Bankers Gained Control of America”, which runs for over 3 hours.
The video originated in and circulates among the network of survivalist, conspiracy-mongering, extremist websites, like rtr.org, which claims credit for the film. But since its production, “The American Dream” has enjoyed considerable success beyond the fringe, breaking through into much more mainstream conservative discussions.
Andrew Breitbart’s website features Lumpkin, arguing that his film is mainstream conservatism, trying to combat the leftist bias in Hollywood. Judge Napolitano of FOX News gave Lumpkin a television platform to promote the film. It is also promoted on the websites of Ron Paul and of the Libertarian Party. The Libertarian Party of California is so excited about “The American Dream” that Lumpkin and his co-writer Harold Uhl will be invited speakers at their annual convention in April: “Tad Lumpkin and Harold Uhl, up-and-coming libertarian activists in the realm of digital entertainment, will present their fast-paced, laugh-filled, and deadly serious expose of the Federal Reserve, ‘The American Dream’.”
The film is available on YouTube, where hundreds of comments demonstrate its broad acceptance as a revelation about how we got to where we are.
At the core of “The American Dream” is a familiar message: Jews are the devil behind all financial evils. Unlike most antisemitic propaganda, “The American Dream” is not blatant in its targeting of Jews. The word “Jew” is never spoken in the film, and nothing I have seen by the filmmakers refers to Jews. But the second half of the “The American Dream” reveals the shadowy power behind the Fed and behind the gradual takeover of the whole world during the past 200 years: the Rothschild banking family.
The narrative of “The American Dream” strings together a series of Rothschild “achievements”, all made up, but all firmly planted in antisemitic lore: they profited from both sides at Waterloo; they enslaved England and they planned to “enslave all the nations on earth”; they controlled Alexander Hamilton, who first proposed a national bank; all the big American bankers trembled in fear before the “Red Shield bankers” when the IRS took over our country in 1913.
“Red Shield” is the English translation for Rothschild. Unlike all the other characters in the film, the Red Shield bankers are portrayed as tentacled monsters and called “evil tyrants”. The many-armed octopus was a favorite symbol used by 19th-century antisemites to portray their claim that Jews control everything. If you google “Rothschild red shield”, you come up with a host of survivalist, Christian fundamentalist, racist websites about the dangers of Jewish power and of the Fed.
The narrative of the video is an updated version of “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion”, a 19th-century fabrication which allegedly proved that Jews planned, and had always planned, to take over the world. “Protocols” explained the history of the world as a Jewish conspiracy. In “The American Dream” that plan is carried out by the Rothschilds.
According to the believers in this whole scheme, President Barack Obama is already part of the conspiracy. Another film popular with the Fed-haters, who see Jews lurking behind everything they hate, is “Rothschild's Choice: Barack Obama and the Hidden Cabal Behind the Plot to Murder America”.
There are many prejudices in America, ideas about evil that have endured for generations, sometimes below the surface of public consciousness. The historical discrimination against Jews, keeping Jews out of positions of respect and power, did not prevent Henry Ford from claiming that Jews were dangerously close to controlling the US. In the 1920s Ford published “The International Jew: The World’s Foremost Problem,” which was heavily based on the “Protocols”. Among Ford’s ideas was that Jews exercised control over the Federal Reserve. Hitler’s American consul gave Ford the Nazi Grand Cross of the German Eagle in 1938.
Father Charles Coughlin, the phenomenally popular radio priest, used the airwaves in the 1930s to propound his belief that an “international conspiracy of Jewish bankers” had caused the Depression, as well as the Russian Revolution. He inspired thousands of supporters to march in the streets of New York to protest the possibility that more Jewish refugees from the Nazis might be allowed into the US.
In my lifetime, antisemitism in American has reached its lowest point. Any discrimination against Jews in any place at any time is illegal, and liable to be denounced by all who know of it. Social attitudes have fundamentally changed in that time, so that openly antisemitic remarks are condemned, except in extreme circles.
Because the video begins by laying out the case against the Fed as the evil force behind our economic crisis and because the antisemitism is not trumpeted, this video is getting serious consideration across many websites which are solely focused on economics. As “The American Dream” makes its way around the virtual world, the messages about Jews, the evil behind the evil, become unremarkable and accepted.
“The American Dream” is a cartoon meant to evoke laughter, but at its core it tells a story steeped in an ancient hatred. It could be used as an educational tool and should be viewed by many Americans. But it does not teach anything useful about economics or history. It demonstrates how subtle messages of hate can lurk behind cartoon images, how simplistic political formulas can be dangerous, and how persistent are irrational hatreds.
The real American dream is different. It is not about buying bigger houses and it certainly is not about finding Jewish scapegoats for national problems. The American dream, the one pursued by the Jews who escaped antisemitism in Europe and whose son, grandson, and great-grandson I am, was freedom from irrational hatred.
Perhaps Lumpkin and Uhl are not antisemites. Maybe they incorporated the theme of the evil Rothschilds without realizing what they were doing. But their intentions or ignorance hardly matter. What does matter in 2011 is that American politicians and media personalities think a film that portrays Jews as evil monsters bent on world domination is worth showing, praising, and promoting. After decades of retreat, the antisemitism of Ford and Coughlin, and of the Nazis, is back, on a screen near you.

Obama Stands by Muslim Brotherhood Endorsement
by Hillel Fendel
February 20, 2011, Adar 9, 5771
For the first time, a U.S. government supports granting a government role to an extremist Islamic organization: the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.
On Monday, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said Egypt's new government will have to include a "whole host of important non-secular actors." Most prominent among these is clearly the Muslim Brotherhood – which has made Islamic world domination one of its ultimate goals. It also opposes Egypt's 30-year-old peace treaty with Israel.
Gibbs said the Muslim Brotherhood must reject violence and recognize democratic goals for the U.S. to be comfortable with it assuming a role in the new government. This caveat does not significantly alter the new American approach, which is very different than that of the previous Administration, in which George W. Bush pushed Mubarak for democratic reforms but never publicly accepted a role for Islamists.
Today, new White House chief of staff William Daley moderated the position very slightly, saying the U.S. hopes for a "strong, stable and secular Egyptian government." Noting that the strengthening of the Muslim Brotherhood is "some people's expectation [and] some people's fear," Daley acknowledged that the situation in Egypt is largely out of American control.
Obama's new position, while not totally surprising, is worrisome to many. "The White House appears to be leaving Hosni Mubarak, an ally for three decades and lynchpin of Mideast stability, twisting slowly in the wind," writes David Horowitz of the Freedom Center. "And worse, it appears to be open to allowing the Muslim Brotherhood to play a key role in a 'reformed' Egyptian government, as long as the organization renounces violence and supports democracy. If the Obama White House really believes this is possible, it is even more hopelessly incompetent than we imagined!"
Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood, with 600,000 members, is not on official U.S. terrorism lists, as are Hamas and Hizbullah, but the American government has had no contact with it because of what Gibbs said were "questions over its commitment to the rule of law, democracy and nonviolence."
It stands for the re-establishment of the Islamic Empire (Caliphate), the takeover, spiritually or otherwise, of the entire world, and jihad and martyrdom. It has front organizations in the UK, France, and the United States.
A former Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations, Dr. Dore Gold, writes of a fear that the Muslim Brotherhood, widely seen as having become moderate over the years, will "exploit a figure like [Mohammed] ElBaradei in order to hijack the Egyptian revolution at a later stage." Gold noted that ever since the Brotherhood was founded over 80 years ago, it has engaged in political terrorism, assassinating Prime Minister Mahmoud al-Nuqrashi Pasha in 1948, trying to kill President Abdul Nasser several years later, and more.
"A former Kuwaiti Minister of Education, Dr. Ahmad Al-Rab'i, argued in Al-Sharq al-Awsat on July 25, 2005 that the founders of most modern terrorist groups in the Middle East emerged from 'the mantle' of the Muslim Brotherhood," Gold writes.
Even Leslie Gelb, president emeritus of the Council on Foreign Relations, says that the prospect of the Muslim Brotherhood's rise to power "would be calamitous for U.S. security… The [Brotherhood] supports Hamas and other terrorist groups, makes friendly noises to Iranian dictators and torturers, would be uncertain landlords of the critical Suez Canal, and opposes the Egyptian-Israeli agreement of 1979, widely regarded as the foundation of peace in the Mideast. Above all, the [Brotherhood] would endanger counter terrorism efforts in the region and worldwide… The real danger is that our experts, pundits and professors will talk the Arab and American worlds into believing we can all trust the [Brotherhood]..."

Jewish US Lawmaker Gabrielle Giffords Shot, Prognosis Optimistic
by Chana Ya'ar

Doctors say they are "optimistic" about her chances of recovery, but the prognosis for the first 24 hours is guarded following surgery to save the life of a firm friend of Israel, U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords. The Jewish lawmaker was shot in the head by a 22-year-old gunman with a pistol at point-blank range Saturday afternoon local time. He was wrestled to the ground by witnesses at the scene and taken into custody.
According to the Associated Press, the gunman was identified as Jared Loughner. He raced up and began shooting as the 40-year-old Arizona Democrat was addressing her constituents at a "Congress on Your Corner" event held at a local supermarket in Tucson.
At least five people were killed in the rampage, AP reported, including a federal judge and an aide to the Congresswoman. Several of her staff were among the wounded as well.
A doctor at the University Medical Center told reporters that one of the victims, a nine-year-old child, had died. Five others, including Giffords, were out of surgery and were listed in critical condition but holding their own; Giffords, he said, was responding to commands. Another five victims were undergoing surgery.
Giffords, who is in her third term in office, was airlifted to a local hospital immediately following the shooting. She is married to astronaut Mark Kelly.
President Barack Obama called the shooting "an unspeakable tragedy" and said that such "a senseless and terrible act of violence has no place in a free society."
Giffords once began an op-ed piece for the Arizona Jewish Post with a proud recital of her family roots, explaining that she is the grandchild of Akiba Hornstein, who was “the son of a Lithuanian rabbi.” Her grandfather changed his name, she said, as did so many others who came to United States, to Giffords “for reasons of anti-Semitism.” More than 50 years later, “like my grandmother, I am a lifetime member of Hadassah and now a member of Congregation Chaverim,” she wrote.
The Congresswoman supports direct talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, believing that “peace between Israel and her neighbors can only be achieved by direct talks between the parties. Until the Palestinian leadership and other hostile regimes are willing to accept Israel’s right to exist, it will be impossible to achieve peace,” she wrote in 2006. “I believe that the United States can help by providing a mediator who can be trusted by both sides… “
During her tenure in the Arizona State Senate, Giffords had the opportunity to visit Jerusalem. “It was one of the most memorable experiences of my life,” she said.
“I got to see firsthand the sacrifices that Israelis make in the name of security because of the dangerous state of affairs there. I will always be a strong supporter of Israel.”
Call to Destroy Israel by Any Means – in Washington, DC
by Maayana Miskin
October 20, 2010, Cheshvan 12, 5771
American professor Kaukab Siddique recently called for Israel to be destroyed by any means necessary, and issued a warning to Jews as well. Siddique spoke over Labor Day weekend at an anti-Israel rally in Washington D.C., but received little notice at the time.
"We must stand united to defeat, to destroy, to dismantle Israel--if possible by peaceful means," Siddique said. His comments were captured on film by the Investigative Project on Terrorism that publicized them recently..
"Perhaps, like Saladin, we will give them enough food and water to travel back to the lands from where they came to occupy other people,” Siddique continued. He called on Muslims to “unite and rise up against this hydra-headed monster which calls itself Zionism."
He made it clear that he was talking about the entire state of Israel, and not only the regions such as Judea and Samaria that are the subject of negotiation. “Settlements are only the tentacles of the devil that resides in Tel Aviv,” he stated.
Siddique addressed Jews as well. “For the Jews, I would say see what could happen to you if the Muslims wake up," he warned.
Siddique is a professor of English at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. He was not the only extremist at the Washington rally; other protesters carried Hizbullah flags.
He defended his remarks under questioning from America's CBN news, saying that his references to “the Jews” were directed at Israeli leaders and their supporters, “not to the Jewish race as a whole.”
According to CBN Siddique has made past statements against “the Jews,” including accusations that Jews have taken over America. He has also denied that the Holocaust took place, and has spoken in defense of convicted terrorists, including one who was behind the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.
His employer, Lincoln University, has received significant state funding over the past decade. University administrators responded to Siddique's most recent rant by defending his right to free speech. The university does not support his views, but cannot control what he says outside the classroom, they said.
Arab Media Cheer Obama for De-Linking Muslims from Terror
by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu
May 17, 2010, Sivan 4, 5770
A leading international Arab newspaper has hailed U.S. President Barack Obama for officially removing the description “Muslim terrorist” as part of his campaign “to reach out to the Muslim world.” The op-ed did not note the radical Muslim bacgkround of the terrorists and reasoned they are equal to other terrorists whose religion is not connected with their acts.
Osman Mirghani, the deputy editor-in-chief of 'Al-Sharq Al-Awsat,' which is owned by a Saudi Arabian company and published in London, wrote an op-ed last week under the headline "Why Didn't Obama Mention Islam?." The Obama administration has broken from the Bush government’s policy of using the term “Islamic terrorism” in official documents and "no longer [is] responding to extremist voices" that call for targeting home countries of terrorists, he explained.
He said the president is carrying out his pledge in his “reaching out to Muslims speech” at Cairo University in June 2008. Regarding Obama's statements on the botched Times Square bombing, the editor praised President Obama for not once referring to prime suspect Faisal Shahzad’s being Muslim and for not “mentioning Islam in discussing the terrorist operation."
The same approach was taken after the failed Christmas Day bombing by Nigerian Muslim Umar Farouk Abdulmuttalib. “Obama spoke about the detained terrorist as a member of the Al-Qaeda organization but he did not speak about him being a Muslim,’ Mirghani wrote. “Even when he spoke about Al-Qaeda, Obama noted that it was not the first time that the network had targeted America, ignoring the links that were made in the past between the organization and Islam or when it was put in the context of 'Islamic extremism.'"
Similarly, after the Fort Hood, Texas attack by a Muslim terrorist who murdered 13 people last November, “President Obama 'cautioned against jumping to conclusions’” and did not refer to the terrorist's Arab origin or religion.
The article did not mention that most, if not all, Arab terrorists are indoctrinated by Muslim extremism. Instead, the editor argued that describing terrorists as Muslims actually provokes more terror. “There is recognition today of the fact that terrorists are benefiting from the creation of an anti-Islamic and anti-Muslim atmosphere after any terrorist operation, and that issuing statements or taking steps that target Muslims employed by extremist groups further spreads hostility against the U.S., the West, and even moderate Islamic states,” he reasoned.
Th writer argued that “the identity of the terrorist does not necessarily implicate the country he belongs to, in the same way that other adherents of the religion the terrorist follows should not be condemned."
He accused former President George W. Bush of being “captive to the Big Stick policy and slogans of 'you're either with us or against us,' which caused the popularity of the U.S. to wane, not only in the Islamic world but in numerous countries around the world." In contrast, he continued, “The new president has extended his hand to the Islamic world,… and the tendency to link every terrorist operation to the religion of the perpetrator has disappeared.”
Names of American Terror Victims in Israel Missing from US List
by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu
August 8 2010, Av 28, 5770 Dozens of names of American victims of Arab terror in Israel, including more than 10 who were murdered, are missing from a State Department list, which also offers up to $5 million for information on terrorists.
The U.S. “Rewards for Justice“ http://www.rewardsforjustice.net/ program offers up to $5 million for information that brings to justice those responsible for the attacks. Since its inception, RFJ has paid over $80 million to more than 50 individuals for information that prevented international terrorist attacks or helped bring to justice those involved in prior acts.
The victims' names are published under the title of “Violence in Opposition to the Middle East Peace Negotiations - 1993 to present.” http://www.rewardsforjustice.net/index.cfm?page=MEP_Victims&language=lingala
The Rewards for Justice website states, "Anyone thinks that they, or a deceased family member, are eligible to be listed as a victim in the Rewards for Justice program, should call the State Department's Office of Israel and Palestinian Affairs at (202) 647-3672."
The U.S. State Department website recently added two names of American victims of Arab terror after it was discovered the list was incomplete. Relatives of Binyamin and Talya Kahane reportedly said they had not been approached by the State Department, and their names were included after contact was made through Samaria (Shomron) liaison director David Ha'Ivri.
He told Israel National News that the State Dept. also was informed that the name of Rabbi Hillel Lieberman is missing, but his name has not been included. An American Embassy spokesman responded that the list is being updated, and he also pointed out that the State Dept. does not post any names without the permission of the families.
The Kahane couple and Rabbi Lieberman were killed at the beginning of the Second Intifada, also known as the Oslo War, which broke out in 2000. They were associated with the Kach movement, founded by Kahane’s father Rabbi Meir Kahane, who was slain in New York in 1990.
The government web site states, “Since the signing of the Oslo Accords in September 1993, terrorist groups and individuals opposed to a negotiated peace agreement have staged attacks in Gaza, the West Bank [Judea and Samaria] and Israel. The intent of these attacks was to disrupt peace negotiations and to modify the attitudes of the leaders engaged in them."
Dozens of names are missing from the list, according to a compilation on the Jewish Virtual Library list of American victims of terror. It is not known if the families of the victims have contacted the State Dept.
Among the missing names are Nachshon Wachsman, who was kidnapped and murdered by Hamas terrorists in 1994; Dov Driben, an American Israeli who was killed at his farm in 1996; and Eish Kodesh Gilmore, an American Israeli who was killed while guarding the National Insurance Institute in Jerusalem in 2000.
The State Dept. list concludes with a suicide bombing in May 2003 and does not include at least seven subsequent terrorist attacks that have killed or wounded American citizens. The attacks include the 2006 murder of Florida teenager Daniel Wultz at a Tel Aviv food stand; the bombing of an American convoy in Gaza in October 2003; and the September 2003 suicide bombing in Jerusalem that killed David Applebaum and his daughter Nava, originally from Cleveland.
Also missing are the names of several wounded in the 2002 suicide bombing at Sbarro's Restaurant in Jerusalem.
Times Square car bomb suspect pleads guilty in NYC
By TOM HAYS, Associated Press Writer Tom Hays, Associated Press Writer
June 22, 2010

NEW YORK – Calling himself a "Muslim soldier," a defiant Pakistan-born U.S. citizen pleaded guilty Monday to carrying out the failed Times Square car bombing, saying his attack was the answer to "the U.S. terrorizing ... Muslim people."
Wearing a white skull cap, Faisal Shahzad entered the plea in U.S. District Court in Manhattan just days after a federal grand jury indicted him on 10 terrorism and weapons counts, some of which carried mandatory life prison sentences. He pleaded guilty to them all.
"One has to understand where I'm coming from," Shahzad calmly told U.S. District Judge Miriam Goldman Cedarbaum, who challenged him repeatedly with questions such as whether he worried about killing children in Times Square. "I consider myself ... a Muslim soldier."
The 30-year-old described his effort to set off a bomb in an SUV he parked in Times Square on May 1, saying he chose the warm Saturday night because it would be crowded with people who he could injure or kill.
He revealed that he actually packed his vehicle with three separate bombs, hoping to set off a fertilizer-fueled bomb packed in a gun cabinet, a set of propane tanks and gas canisters rigged with fireworks to explode into a fireball.
Shahzad said he expected the bombs to begin going off after he lighted a fuse and waited between 2 1/2 minutes and five minutes for them to erupt.
"I was waiting to hear a sound but I didn't hear a sound. So I walked to Grand Central and went home," he said.
Shahzad dismissed the judge's question about the children by saying the U.S. didn't care when children were killed in Muslim countries.
"It's a war. I am part of the answer to the U.S. terrorizing the Muslim nations and the Muslim people," he said. "On behalf of that, I'm revenging the attack. Living in the United States, Americans only care about their people but they don't care about the people elsewhere in the world when they die."
Shahzad made the plea and an accompanying statement as Cedarbaum began asking him a lengthy series of questions to ensure he understood his rights.
Cedarbaum asked Shahzad if he understood some charges carried mandatory life sentences and that he might spend the rest of his life in prison. He said he did.
At one point, she asked him if he was sure he wanted to plead guilty.
He said he wanted "to plead guilty and 100 times more" to let the U.S. know that if it did not get out of Iraq and Afghanistan, halt drone attacks and stop meddling in Muslim lands, "we will be attacking U.S."
Sentencing was scheduled for Oct. 5.
The Bridgeport, Conn., resident was arrested trying to leave the country May 3, two days after the bomb failed to ignite near a Broadway theater.
Authorities said Shahzad immediately cooperated, delaying his initial court appearance for two weeks as he spilled details of a plot meant to sow terror in the world-famous Times Square on a warm Saturday night when it was packed with thousands of potential victims.
The bomb apparently sputtered, emitting smoke that attracted the attention of an alert street vendor, who notified police, setting in motion a rapid evacuation of blocks of a city still healing from the shock of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.
According to the indictment issued last week, Shahzad received a total of $12,000 prior to the attack from the Pakistani Taliban through cash drop-offs in Massachusetts and Long Island.
Attorney General Eric Holder said the Pakistani Taliban "facilitated Faisal Shahzad's attempted attack on American soil."
Shahzad was accused in the indictment of receiving explosives training in Waziristan, Pakistan, during a five-week trip to that country. He returned to the United States in February.
The indictment said he received $5,000 in cash on Feb. 25 from a co-conspirator in Pakistan and $7,000 more on April 10, allegedly sent at the co-conspirator's direction.
Shahzad, born in Pakistan, moved to the United States when he was 18.
Pakistan has arrested at least 11 people since the attempted attack. An intelligence official has alleged two of them played a role in the plot. No one has been charged.
Three men in Massachusetts and Maine suspected of supplying money to Shahzad have been detained on immigration charges; one was recently transferred to New York.
Federal authorities have said they believe money was channeled through an underground money transfer network known as "hawala," but they have said they doubt anyone in the U.S. who provided money knew what it was for.
Ahmadinejad Calls to Liberate America
by Maayana Miskin
June 21,2010, Tammuz 9, 5770
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad went on a tirade against the United States and the Jewish people in a speech given last week in Shahre-Kord in central Iran. The speech was printed in Iran's Fars media and translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI).
Among other things, Ahmadinejad announced a new goal: “liberating” the US.
"I hereby announce that from this point forward, one of the Iranian nation's main aspirations will be to deliver the American people from [its] undemocratic and bullying government,” he said.
He also condemned Jews and Israel, saying “the West” had “gathered the filthiest and greatest of criminals, who only appear to be human from all corners of the earth... so that they would occupy the lands of Palestine.”
Ahmadinejad's statements follow the imposition of a fourth round of sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program. The Iranian president said the sanctions do not concern him. “Why must I worry, when I have a plan to change the world... [to change] the unilateral and discriminatory world order?” he asked.
Obama: US to Pour $400 Million into PA
by Hillel Fendel
June 10, 2010
“The situation in Gaza is unsustainable – [as is] the status quo in the entire Middle East.” So said U.S. President Barack Obama after meeting with Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas in Washington on Wednesday.
Obama repeated several times that a new solution other than a maritime blockade on Gaza must be found to address “Israel’s legitimate security needs.”
The President also mentioned, once, the need for “more progress on both security as well as incitement issues” – to which Abbas responded, “I say in front of you, Mr. President, that we have nothing to do with incitement against Israel, and we’re not doing that.”
In actuality, however, the most recent report by Palestinian Media Watch shows that “the Palestinian Authority, the Fatah leaders and the Abbas-controlled official PA media continue to deny Israel’s existence, deny Israel’s right to exist, define the conflict with Israel as an uncompromising religious war for Allah, promote hatred through demonization, slander and libel, and glorify terror and violence.”
PMW states that the PA and Fatah leaders make moderate statements to Western powers in English, in contrast to what they tell their own people in Arabic. The full PMW report may be seen here.
Obama: Two-State Solution
Obama reiterated that “a lot of work… remains to be done so that we can create a two-state solution in the Middle East in which we have an Israel that is secure and fully accepted by its neighbors, and a Palestinian people that have their own state, self-determination, and the ability to chart their own destiny.”
Regarding the flotilla and the blockade on Gaza, Obama said that he and Abbas discussed how they could promote “a better approach to Gaza.” Obama acknowledged that Israel “should not have missiles flying out of Gaza into its territories,” and even noted that “I think President Abbas agrees with this.” However, he said, “we also think that it is important for us to explore new mechanisms so that we can have goods and services, and economic development…” in Gaza. “And so we are going to be working hand in hand to make sure that we come up with a better approach.”
Questions on Obama's Proposal
“It seems to us,” Obama later explained, “that there should be ways of focusing narrowly on arms shipments, rather than focusing in a blanket way on stopping everything and then in a piecemeal way allowing things into Gaza.” He did not elaborate on how “focusing narrowly on arms shipments” would stop arms arriving as hidden contraband smuggled in among food and medicine supplies.
In the meantime, Obama said, the United States “is going to be announcing an additional $400 million in assistance for housing, school construction, business development -- not only in Gaza, but also in the West Bank, because we think it’s important for us to reaffirm once again our commitment to improving the day-to-day lives of ordinary Palestinians.”
Asked how the distribution of the money will be overseen, given the “problems” – others have accused PA leaders of downright corruption – in this area in the past, Obama said only, ”I’ll let my team give you the details in terms of how that will be administered and how the money will begin to flow.”

Obama’s Policy Challenges Congressional Law on Jerusalem
by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu
March 17, 2010
U.S. President Barack Obama’s policy against a Jewish presence in parts of Jerusalem flies in the face of the contents of a 1995 Congressional law to relocate the American embassy in a united capital.
Congress passed the law in October 1995 after the House of Representatives approved it in a 374-37 vote and the Senate voted for it by a 93-5 margin.
Click here to see the entire Jerusalem Embassy Act and here for a current bill to cancel the waiver it contains.
Article 1 of the law states: "Each sovereign nation, under international law and custom, may designate its own capital".
Then it goes on to specifics in Article 5,6,7: ” From 1948-1967, Jerusalem was a divided city and Israeli citizens of all faiths as well as Jewish citizens of all states were denied access to holy sites in the area controlled by Jordan. Since 1967, Jerusalem has been a united city administered by Israel, and persons of all religious faiths have been guaranteed full access to holy sites within the city.”
It also notes that “Jerusalem has been administered as a unified city in which the rights of all faiths have been respected and protected.”
In Article 9, the law quotes a 1990 Congressional resolution that Congress ‘‘strongly believes that Jerusalem must remain an undivided city in which the rights of every ethnic and religious group are protected’’ and states in article 10 that in 1992, the United States Senate and House of Representatives unanimously adopted Senate Concurrent Resolution 113 of the One Hundred Second Congress to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem, and reaffirming congressional sentiment that Jerusalem must remain an undivided city.
Since the act was passed, President Obama was the only candidate for office who did not state during his campaign that he would act to move the embassy back to Jerusalem, which was reunited in the Six-Day War in 1967. The United States and eventually every other country in the world pulled embassies out of Jerusalem following Israel’s declaring sovereignty over the city. Every president, except for President Obama, has exercised the law’s waiver that allows for delay in moving the embassy “to protect the national security interests of the United States.”
President Obama’s policy since taking office last year has been to divide the city and create a base in Jerusalem as the seat of Palestinian Authority state although the Jerusalem Embassy Act recalls previous Congressional resolutions calling for the city to remain united.
The Obama administration has continued a State Department policy, disregardng the law passed by the Congress, of not recognizing Israeli sovereignty over parts of Jerusalem, including the Old City, that were restored to the Jewish State in the Six-Day War in 1967 after Jordan conquered them in 1948.
Republican Senator Sam Brownback and six other senators last November co-sponsored a bill to require the President to execute the Congressional act by 2012, regardless of the “security” waiver. Co-sponsor Sen. Jim Inhofe flatly stated that security has not been the reason for the embassy remaining in Tel Aviv. “For political reasons, our embassy is currently located in Tel Aviv instead of in the nation's capital city,” he said.
Following this week’s standoff between the Obama and the Netanyahu governments over building for Jews in part of Jerusalem, Sen. Brownback stated, “It's hard to see how spending a weekend condemning Israel for a zoning decision in its capital city amounts to a positive step towards peace.
"Rather than launching verbal attacks on our staunch ally and friend, it would be far more worthwhile for this Administration to expend the effort planning for the transfer of our embassy to Jerusalem and tackling the growing Iranian nuclear threat."
Despite US Pressure, Israel Insists: No Preconditions for Talks
March 17, 2010
by Gil Ronen
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's bureau appeared Tuesday to rebuff United States pressure to make immediate gestures toward the Palestinian Authority, when it issued a statement insisting that all preconditions to talks with the PA be dropped.
Reports Monday said that US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke to Netanyahu on the phone for nearly 45 minutes at week's end and demanded the cancellation of the construction of 1,600 housing units in the northeastern Jerusalem neighborhood of Ramat Shlomo. Clinton also reportedly demanded additional Israeli 'gestures' such as the release of Arab prisoners.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) noted that Israel has made efforts in recent months to improve relations with the PA, including the Prime Minister’s speech at Bar Ilan University in which he called for a two-state solution; the removal of hundreds of checkpoints and barriers in Judea and Samaria, and the freeze on construction starts in Judea and Samaria for ten months – a decision that Clinton herself had hailed as unprecedented.
Meanwhile, the PMO stated, “the Palestinians pile on more preconditions for restarting the diplomatic process than they did in the past 16 years.”
Netanyahu's bureau noted further that the PA is “conducting a delegitimization campaign against Israel in international institutions through the Goldstone Report, and continues to incite to hatred and violence, including the decision to dedicate a square in Ramallah to the memory of a terrorist who was responsible for murdering dozens of Israelis.”
"Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu again calls upon the Palestinians to enter the tent of peace without preconditions, because this is the only way to reach an arrangement that guarantees peace, security and prosperity to both nations,” the PMO added.
The U.S. ‘condemnation’ of Israel: Facts and perspective needed
By Lanny Davis
March 17, 2010
Full disclosure: I support a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians — consistent with Israel’s security. But even I, a strong supporter of the peace process, was shocked when I heard my own government “condemn” Israel and “summon” its ambassador to the State Department shortly before the Sabbath last Friday night to be read a harsh “démarche” (letter of condemnation) by the department’s second-highest official. And if that isn’t enough, the statements were immediately leaked to the press, indicating that the U.S.-Israel “relationship” was “at risk.”
“At risk”? The U.S.-Israel “relationship”??
“Condemn” is a word that has been used regarding North Korea, the Soviet Union and other evil, murderous dictatorships. Japan was “summoned” to the State Department after Pearl Harbor.
How could the U.S. government use such language about a democracy that has been America’s most loyal ally in the world on virtually all issues, a nation that shares our core values — protecting civil rights, women’s rights, due process and free speech — not only for Israeli citizens, but for over 1 million Israeli Arabs as well?
So what caused all this? Well, I learned President Barack Obama was “livid” and regarded it as a “personal insult” that the Israeli government had announced, at the time of Vice President Joe Biden’s visit, that 1,600 housing units had been approved to be built three years or more from now in the East Jerusalem Orthodox Jewish neighborhood of Ramat Shlomo.
I could see why the president and the vice president would be very unhappy that this announcement was made just as Biden was visiting.
But let’s put the incident in perspective by considering a few completely undisputed facts:
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu immediately publicly apologized to Biden, stating that the announcement decision was made without his knowledge or approval. No one has doubted his veracity on that point, and the vice president accepted his apology when he was in Israel.
The administration stated it was “insulted” not just by the timing of this announcement but by the “substance.” But what “substance” was violated? As The Washington Post reported, when the Israeli government agreed last November to a 10-month moratorium on settlement construction, that commitment “did not include the East Jerusalem area where the construction was announced to take place.” Ramat Shlomo has been an Orthodox Jewish neighborhood going back to the 19th century. Even President Bill Clinton kept these neighborhoods under Israeli jurisdiction as part of his 2000 Camp David proposals — with then-Prime Minister Ehud Barak remarkably accepting Palestinian jurisdiction over Palestinian neighborhoods in East Jerusalem. Most of these historically Jewish neighborhoods are within 2.5 miles of the 1967 line, and some only a few hundred meters from it, contain some 200,000 Israelis, over 40 percent of the Jewish population of Jerusalem. If anything over the 1967 line in Jerusalem is a problem, is Israel to be condemned for building in the Jewish quarter of the Old City? Repairing the Western Wall? That has never been U.S. policy.
Then there is the fact of the double standard. Why wasn’t the administration “insulted,” or so much as utter one critical word, when the Palestinians required U.S. Mid-East Special Envoy George Mitchell to agree to commute 30 minutes between the Palestinians in Ramallah and the Israelis in Jerusalem, all because the Palestinians refused the minimal civil act of talking to Israeli negotiators face to face?
It was reported that Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton “relayed” the administration’s anger. But then, when she was asked directly by CNN reporter Jill Dougherty whether “the U.S.-Israeli relationship was at risk now because of this,” I was heartened by her answer: “Oh, it’s not at risk. I mean, our relationship is durable and strong. It’s rooted in common values.”
I hope, therefore, that the outburst of excessive language — language that should never be used about a friend or ally — was a momentary aberration. And whatever problems intermittently occur in the peace process, this administration should not lose sight of the big picture — first, that Israel remains a reliable military and economic resource for U.S. security interests, especially with Iran so close to developing a nuclear bomb; and second, that it is a historical fact that only when the U.S. shows steadfast support for Israel and its security — while still supporting a two-state solution — has there been progress toward peace.

Congress Pressures Obama to Retreat on Jerusalem
by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu

Approximately 75 percent of U.S. Congress members are prepared to sign a letter calling for an end to public criticism of Israel by the Obama administration and to "reinforce its ties with the country," according to the British Guardian.
An open letter states, “Our view is that such differences are best resolved quietly, in trust and confidence." The wording was suggested by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) lobby, which is asking Congress members to help improve relations between U.S. President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.
The one-year-old American government has in effect discarded the Roadmap plan, which already had been detoured by then-U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, by mediating indirect talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority and gaining concessions from the Netanyahu government without parallel steps by PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.
However, its demands concerning Jerusalem apparently have crossed the red line for Diaspora Jews as well as for many liberal leaders in Israel, causing a rift among the president’s advisers.
The White House on Tuesday tried to smooth over relations, with spokesman Robert Gibbs saying he was ”puzzled" by reports that President Obama snubbed Prime Minister Netanyahu by not holding a press conference or providing an opportunity for a public photograph. “I’m puzzled by the notion that somehow it’s a bad deal to get two hours with the president almost entirely alone,” he told reporters. “That doesn’t seem like a lot of punishment to me.”
He also denied a rumor in the media that the United States was prepared to refrain from vetoing a possible United Nations resolution against Israel’s building for Jews in areas of Jerusalem that were restored to the Jewish State in 1967 but are not recognized by United States as being under Israeli sovereignty. Approximately 300,000 Jews live in the neighborhoods, which include Ramot, French Hill and Gilo.
If the report was a trial balloon, the response appears to have let all the air out as Cabinet ministers line up behind Prime Minister Netanyahu to refuse to agree to a temporary building freeze.
Most of President Obama’s advisers have taken a pro-Palestinian Authority stand, backing its claims to sovereignty over part of the city. Foreign media have reported that President Obama’s public stand against Israel, beginning with his speech in Cairo last June that Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria are “illegitimate,” has placed him out on a limb. “The administration's credibility is at stake,” one source reportedly said.

Norway, Arab Royalty Fund Clinton Foundation in 2009
by Hana Levi Julian
June 1, 2010
During U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s first year in office, some of the heftiest contributions to her husband’s charitable foundation came from royal families of Arab nations. The list of those who donated to the William J. Clinton Foundation in 2009 was released to the media last week.
Allowing the names on former U.S. President Bill Clinton’s charity donor list to be made public was a condition set by President Barack Obama prior to offering the position of Secretary of State to Hillary Clinton.
A significant number of the high-end contributors were Saudi Arabian business owners and royal families in other Arab countries.
Many Middle Eastern Donors at the Top
Listed among the top donors who gave between $10 million and $25 million in 2009 and in previous years were the government of Norway and the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Norway was site of the signing of the Oslo Accords between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization in the 1990s, and its government has consistently pressured Israel to make security concessions to the Palestinian Authority. It is not considered a strong friend of the Jewish State.
Saudi Arabia, which does not recognize Israel, has promoted its so-called 2002 "Peace Initiative" that calls for Israel to allow some five million foreign Arabs, descendants of those who lived in the area but fled during the 1948 War of Independence, to immigrate to the Jewish State under what it calls the "right of return." The plan also demands that Israel hand over all lands restored to the state in the 1967 Six-Day War, including Judea, Samaria, Gaza, the Golan Heights and a large portion of Jerusalem, including areas that contain Judaism's holiest sites.
Norway’s contribution was listed for the year 2009 alone; the Saudi funds were listed as having been donated prior to 2009.
Those who contributed between $1 million and $5 million during 2009 included Nasser Al-Rashid, a Saudi Arabian billionaire and engineering advisor to the royal family in Riyadh. Saudi jet-setting oil mogul Walid A. Juffali, the Sultanate of Oman and the Swedish Postcode Lottery also donated to the cause in the same fiscal category.
In the years prior to 2009, those who donated between $1 million and $5 million included Ethiopian-born billionaire Sheikh Mohammed H. Al-Amoudi, named the 86th richest person in the world in 2007. Al-Amoudi is the owner of a Swedish oil refinery and has business investments in Africa and the Middle East. He is currently a citizen of Saudi Arabia, with a home in Jedda.
Also on the list of those who contributed between $1 million and $5 million to the former president’s charity the year before his wife became Secretary of State were Lebanese Christian businessman Gilbert Chagoury, who has strong interests in Nigeria, the Dubai Foundation, run by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum who also is the country’s ruler, former Lebanese Deputy Prime Minister Issam M. Fares & The Wedge Foundation, the U.S.-based nonprofit organization “Friends of Saudi Arabia”, the Open Society Institute sponsored by Hungarian-born leftist George Soros, the State of Kuwait, the State of Qatar, Swiss Reinsurance Company, Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office, the government of Brunei Darussalam and the royal family of the United Arab Emirates, based in Abu Dhabi, the Zayed Family.
Recently re-elected New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s family foundation also donated between $500,000 and $1 million in 2009 to the former American president’s charitable foundation, as did the Bank of America Foundation. Prominent Saudi businessman Hamza B. Al Kholi, whose companies operate in the Middle East, Europe and the United States, contributed between $100,000 and $250,000 in 2009 alone.
A separation donation was made by the Soros Foundation – also under the auspices of George Soros – in the $500,000 to $1 million category. This was a contribution also apparently made prior to 2009, but without details to indicate whether it was in 2008 or earlier. Another donor of note was Abbas Al-Yousef, who contributed between $250,000 and $500,000 prior to 2009, and whose origins are unclear. Ibrahim El Hefni, an Egyptian-American businessman who is now deceased but whose family maintains his foundation, also contributed between $250,000 and $500,000 prior to 2009.
Although Middle Eastern moguls were not the only donors by a long shot, they were prominent in the upper brackets. Also noticeable were a number of foundations run by entertainers, including Barbra Streisand; one of the biggest contributions came from the Bill Gates Foundation.
