'Tienermeisje onthoofd en gevild in Syrië'
23 september 2011, Ellul 24, 5771

A Tale of Torture in Syria
10 juli 2011, Tammuz 6, 5771
by Chana Ya'ar

Protesters is Syria are being beaten and tortured when caught by government forces, a young demonstrator has told CNN in an interview conducted clandestinely over the Internet.

Twitter is being monitored by the government. Facebook isn't safe either. The best bet for communications, he told the news network, is Google chat, within strict limits.

Even then, he used a pseudonym.

The description of torture techniques used on “Ahmed” matches those in past stories from the Soviet gulag and interrogations in Latin America. Electrocution was included. Amnesty International has accused Syria of crimes against humanity.
http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/144824

The human rights watchdog organization has demanded that the United Nations ask the International Criminal Court at The Hague to investigate the allegations of murder and torture of civilian protesters by government forces. http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/145470

In Ahmed's case, his interrogators wanted to know whether he was involved in a particular political party. They had other questions as well. “How much money do you get from Israel? Who are your outside connections? Why did you protest, you animal?”

Forced to sign a confession, he was repeatedly whipped for three days that seemed to last years and then was “re-educated” on patriotism, loyalty to President Bashar al-Assad (who personally faces international sanctions for the brutality), conspiracy in Syria and fighting Israel, CNN reported.  http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/144305

Did it stop him from returning to the demonstrations?

No. Only now, he lies to his mother in order not to worry her when he goes out to protest with friends and family.

For himself, he does not worry. Ahmed knows there is a chance he may be arrested again, face the interrogators and the electric prod again. The prospect of arrest is used by the government to frighten people, he said. “But they don't understand that will only make people angrier – and that is what will bring their end.”

In Syria, 1948 Arab Refugees are Expendable
by Chana Ya'ar
9 juni 2011, Sivan 7, 5771

A bloody confrontation between factions at the Yarmouk Arab refugee camp on the outskirts of Damascus was caused by the Syrian government, an Arab refugee says.

The descendant of a former Arab resident of Israel living today in a Syrian refugee camp charged bitterly that “Palestinian blood is cheap” there. The Arab, who spoke with a Reuters reporter on condition of anonymity, described a mood of “deep frustration in the camp.” He added that his people were being “used by the Syrian regime to deflect attention from its internal crisis.”   http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/144741

The State of Israel concurred, and this week submitted a letter of complaint to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon charging the Assad regime with manipulating Arab refugees living in Syria as a means of diverting "international attention from the violent repression of its own people."  http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/Flash.aspx/212343

The manipulation continued at a funeral for eight people killed as the result of Syria's encouragement of the so-called Arab refugees -- who have now been residents of Syria for several generations --  to attempt to breach Israel's borders on “Naksa Day.”
http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/Flash.aspx/210809

A separate source told Israel National News Monday that each Arab who made the attempt and successfully reached Israel's border earned $1,000 from Syria. Each person who died in the attempt won $10,000 for his or her family. A total of 23 people were killed in the effort, including eight from Yarmouk. Some 350 others were injured, most having been shot as they reached the border fence despite numerous warnings to keep away by the Israeli army.

Arab refugees later became angry during the funeral for those who were killed after defying IDF warnings. Their frustration and grief at being so used was easily manipulated into a new protest -- a solidarity cry for Syrian protesters fighting the Assad regime. The current government – and that of Assad's father – has for decades refused to grant refugees citizenship status.

The Arab refugee protesters then turned on fellow Arabs who support the Syrian government, many of whom are members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP-GC) terrorist organization headed by Ahmed Jibril.

Hundreds stormed PFLP headquarters in Damascus, wielding sticks and stones as they broke into the building. One terrorist was killed. Eleven of those who stormed the building were shot and killed by the terrorists.

*The "Naksa Day" event marks the anniversary of the so-called “setback” – the defeat of the Arab nations who attacked Israel in the 1967 Six Day War. Among those was Syria, which lost the Golan Heights to Israel's forces. Israel subsequently annexed the area, from which Syrian snipers had for years leisurely fired at the Israeli farmers working their fields in the kibbutzim below, killing 140 Israelis.

De terreur van het Syrische bewind
Uit het nieuws
8 juni 2011, Sivan 6, 5771

http://israeltoday.nl/headlines/9-nederlands/1615-syrische-burgers-betaald-voor-aanval-op-israelische-grens

http://reformsyria.org/syrian-opposition/rps-statement-concerning-the-assad-stompers-of-the-golan-heights

Syrian Arabs Test IDF at Border, Four Killed
5 juni 2011, Sivan 3, 5771
by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu

At least four Syrian Arabs were killed by Israeli soldiers after testing Israel’s determination to stop an infiltration, Syrian media reported. It also claimed that several Syrians managed to cross the border towards the Druze city of Majdal Shams.

IDF footage shows Syrian Arabs, several hundred yards north of the border, hurling rocks at Israeli soldiers, who warn them in Arabic to cease and turn back or face gunfire.

The following video is a warning issued by an IDF soldier to rioters approaching the Syrian-Israeli border near Majdal Shams (waarschuwing wordt in het Arabisch gesproken):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12L8hN28GUY&NR=1
Translation to English
"Stop! You are breaching an international border. We warn you not to damage security infrastructure. Whosoever attempts to violate Israel's sovereignty or security infrastructure puts himself in jeopardy. Please return to Syria."

Quiet was maintained on the Israeli side of the border.

Syrian television showed live coverage of the clash, but footage revealed that the planned protests drew only a few hundred people. Approximately 10 people were wounded.

An IDF spokesman said that soldiers warned the Syrian in Arabic to turn back and fired warning shots in the air before firing at them. He added that he could not confirm the Syrian media report that three people were killed.

The spokesman also noted that Syria, unlike Lebanon, did not try to prevent the provocations. Three weeks ago, Syria encouraged protesters to clash with the IDF, as part of an effort to draw attention away from the slaughter of Syrian protesters by security forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad.
http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/144236

There were no reports of attempts to cross into Israel from Lebanon, whose army has declared its side of the border a closed military zone, as Israel has done on its side.

In Judea and Samaria, several hundred Palestinian Authority Arabs marched to the Kalandia crossing to northern Jerusalem and threw rocks at security officers. Quiet also was reported elsewhere.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu told the Cabinet on Sunday morning that “we will not allow extremists” to violate Israel’s borders.

Israel Blames Syria for Mass Infiltration into Golan
May 15 2011, Iyar 11, 5771
by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu

Israeli military and government officials have blamed Syria for intentionally allowing hundreds of Syrian Arabs to cross into the Golan Sunday. They called themselves “Palestinians.”

Am Ysrael Chai - Israel leeft

At least two people were killed -- an Israel citizen and a Syrian, who was killed on the Syrian side of the border.

Estimates of those who crossed the border ranged from hundreds to 2,000 or more. Some of them said their intentions were to reach Yafo (Jaffa) as part of the Nakba Day protests against the re-establishment of Israel as a Jewish state on May 15, 1948.

The infiltrators staged an unprecedented rally, waving Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) flags in the town of Majdal Sham, located near the border and on the road to the Hermon Mountain range.

The IDF explained it restrained from using force that might exacerbate the situation but had “opened fire in order to prevent the violent rioters from illegally infiltrating Israeli territory.

“A number of rioters have infiltrated and are violently rioting in the village. From initial reports, there are dozens of injured that are receiving medical care in a nearby hospital,” said the IDF.

Israeli citizens in Majdal Shams told Voice of Israel government radio that they do not want the Syrians in their town but also would not allow the IDF to evacuate them.

Officials from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) reportedly will try to evacuate them on condition that Israelis are not involved. An IDF spokesperson said that Syria rules its side of the border with an “iron hand” and easily can prevent anyone from crossing into Israel. He said that Syrian President Bashar Assad is trying to cause a disturbance, and government officials said Assad wants to draw attention away from the brutal suppression of the rebellion that has resulted in the murders of approximately 850 protesters.

Satellite Pictures Seen of Hizbullah Base on Syrian Soil
by Rachel Sylvetsky
May 30 '10, Sivan 17, 5770

Hizbullah terrorists are running weapons to Lebanon from secret arms depots in Syria where the terrorists have been accorded their own living quarters, arms storage site and a fleet of trucks, according to the London Times, which claims to have been shown satellite images of one of the compounds. It is said to be situated near the town of Adra, northeast of Damascus. Israeli TV's second channel reported that P.M. Netanyahu spoke about the base in a conversation with Italian President Berloscuni.

The Times quoted a security source, who said, "HIzbullah is allowed to operate this site freely. They often move the arms in bad weather when Israeli satellites are unable to track them." The weapons come from Syria itself or are sent from Iran by air or sea.

This is the first proof of Hizbullah guerillas encamping on Syrian soil, leading to fears that if there is another clash between Israel and Hizbullah, Syria could immediately become involved.

Israel reportedly had wanted to bomb one of the arms transfers but yielded to U.S. pressure to rely on its diplomatic efforts to stop the arms flow. These have been unsuccessful, although John Kerry, the head of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, met with Syrian President Bassar Assad in Damascus in April and discussed arms and Scud missile transfers from Syria to the Hizbullah. Syria denied the transfer, but Western diplomatic sources said that Syria is "flat out lying".

The Times turned to the Syrian Embassy spokesman in London, Jihad Makdissi, who insisted that all military sites in Syria were exclusive to the Syrian military. "If these military depots really exist it would be for the exclusive use of the Syrian army to defend Syrian soil [from Israel], and it is definitely nobody's business."

IDF Intelligence Officer, Brigadier General Yossi Baidatz, told the Knesset recently that even without the Scud transfers, which he called the 'tip of the iceberg',  Hizbullah's arsenal contains rockets of all kinds in numbers that exceed by far their arsenal before the last war with Israel. Weapons transfers from Syria had passed the stage of 'smuggling' and were 'organized and official', he said. (For INN's coverage of his report, click here)

UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended the Second Lebanon War in 2006, banned the rearming of Hizbullah, but has been totally ignored by the terrorist group and its allies.

Syria Arming Hizbullah with Scuds While Talking Peace
by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu

Syria is providing Hizbullah terrorists in Lebanon with the Scud missiles that traumatized Israel in the 1991 Gulf War, and a "Scud Crisis" is threatening to ignite an all-out war between Israel and Hizbullah, the Kuwaiti al-Rai newspaper reported.

President Shimon Peres confirmed the reports prior to leaving for his three-day visit to France.

Paraphrasing Psalms 120:7, the president said on Israeli radio, “Syria claims it wants peace while at the same time it delivers Scuds to Hizbullah whose only goal is to threaten the state of Israel.  “I am for peace; When I speak, they are for war.”’

Al-Rai reported this week that Israel warned the Obama administration “it will take steps” if the United States does not succeed in pressuring Syria to cease arming Hizbullah with the weapons. The U.S. State Department then summoned Syrian Ambassador Imad Mustafa "to inform his government about the level of danger if the missiles crossed the border.”

Israel reportedly sent warnings it would bomb Lebanese and Syrian targets if the long-range missiles cross the border into Lebanon. There are conflicting reports on whether several Scud missiles already have been delivered to Hizbullah terrorists. Despite the almost invisible line between Lebanese armed forces and Hizbullah, the Obama has administration shipped weapons to the Beirut-based government, which is heavily dominated by Syrian interests.

The increasingly open threats made by Syrian leaders and members of the Hizbullah terrorist group in Lebanon have led analyst David Schenker of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs (JCPA) think tank to warn that war may be on the horizon. In addition, he noted, a future war could include Syria and not only its proxy Hizbullah: in February, Syrian leaders said Syria would not “sit idly by” in case of another war with Israel.

Syrian President Bashar Assad recently told visiting U.S. Senator John Kerry that Syria was not arming Hizbullah with the deadly weapons, but the American government was not convinced.

“These reports are unequivocally false and are a product of the Israeli government that is trying to speciously create a raised level of tension in the region to justify a future conflagration of violence on their part, or simply to divert attention from the real issue at hand: Israeli settlements and expansionism,” Syria's Washington embassy spokesman told Foreign Policy’s The Cable.

U.S. President Barack Obama, as part of his “engagement” policy, recently renewed official diplomatic relations with Syria even though the United States defines it as country that supports terror.

Iraq, which was under the dictatorship of Saddam Hussein in 1991, pounded Israel, including metropolitan Tel Aviv, with 40 missiles (pictured at left). In what has been termed a Divine miracle, no one was killed by the explosions.
