Shomron Residents Place 'Star of David Flags' on Ambulances
December 7, 2011, Kislev 11, 5772
by Elad Benari
Magen David Adom volunteers in Judea and Samaria are continuing to protest against the first aid organization’s decision to remove its trademark red Star of David from ambulances in the region.
After recently having re-painted the red stars on the ambulances in Judea and Samaria, the Shomron Residents’ Committee has been providing volunteers with flags with a picture of a red Star of David to place on the ambulances. The flags also read “Magen David Adom in Israel.”
A “Memorandum of Understanding between Magen David Adom in Israel and Palestine Red Crescent Society,” recently obtained by Arutz Sheva , includes having Israel called an “occupier” and agrees that “internationally recognized borders” are the line of demarcation for Red Crescent chapters rather than those of Red Magen David.
http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/149783#.TuZ1GNWvkVp
The memorandum reveals that Magen David Adom promised the International Red Cross that it would not operate in Judea and Samaria. This is because the memorandum states that “internationally recognized borders” are the line of demarcation for Red Crescent chapters rather than those of Magen David Adom.
The agreement also replaces the red Star of David with a red crystal.
The decision was met with anger by residents of Judea and Samaria, and many of them who volunteer for the first aid organization said they would stop volunteering until the Stars of David are brought back.
The Shomron Residents’ Council also organized a blood drive several weeks ago which sent donations directly to the blood bank of Beilinson Hospital in Petach Tikva, rather than having a Magen David Adom ambulance going to the communities where the drive is taking place.
A statement from the council said, “Even if it means more work, we will not give our blood to those who boycott us.”
On Monday, MK Aryeh Eldad (National Union) called on individuals who donate to Magen David Adom to stop doing so.
“Magen David Adom has decided to stop purchases of ambulances in Judea and Samaria, took down the organization’s symbols from ambulances operating in this area and decided that Magen David Adom employees working in Judea and Samaria will not wear the organization’s uniform,” Eldad wrote on his Facebook page. “All these actions were taken as surrender to the demands of the Palestine Red Crescent Society and as a condition to Magen David Adom joining the International Red Cross.”
“I call on all donors to MDA to immediately cease their contributions to the organization, inform the MDA of this, and direct their donations directly to the blood banks of different hospitals, to rescue organizations and to various primary health care organizations which continue to operate with pride in Judea and Samaria, or directly to local councils and municipalities that operate ambulances and no longer receive assistance from MDA.”
PA Arab Riots Begin to Escalate in Judea, Samaria
by Chana Ya'ar
September 21, 2011, Elul 22, 5771
Hundreds of Palestinian Authority Arabs held a violent demonstration Wednesday afternoon near the Zif Junction in Judea, south of Hevron.
The protesters hurled sharp-edged rocks at IDF soldiers, who responded with crowd-control measures to disperse the demonstration. No one was injured and no damage was reported in the incident.
Dozens of PA Arabs also clashed with IDF forces near the Qalandiya checkpoint north of Jerusalem. The rioters ignited tires ablaze, and hurled rocks at the security forces, who used crowd control measures to disperse the mob.
In addition, PA Arabs flung a concrete block at a passing Israeli-licensed vehicle near the Huwarra checkpoint outside the Samaria city of Shechem. The vehicle was damaged in the attack, but the passengers were not injured.
Although the PA security forces have also been issued equipment for crowd control, they have done little to contain the re-emerging Arab violence. The sole demonstration of PA security containment came within Ramallah earlier Wednesday, when masked men burned an American flag.
The incident occurred during a speech by PA Secretary-General Tayeb Abdelrahim marking ceremonies held to celebrate recognition by the United Nations of the PA as a new, independent country. Such a celebration is actually premature, as no vote on the matter has yet been taken – and in fact, the resolution has not yet been proposed – which could lead to further inflamed passions if the promised reason for the celebration does not, in fact, come to pass.
The riots appear to be gaining pace and may be part of the previously announced PA government's strategy of “increased demonstrations” leading up to Friday.
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas is scheduled on that day to demand in his speech to the United Nations Security Council that the international body recognize the PA as an independent, sovereign nation, and grant it “full membership” in its ranks.
Shalom: Jewish Communities Must Remain in Israeli Hands

Vice Prime Minister Silvan Shalom visited on Thursday the Jewish community of Karnei Shomron. During the visit, Shalom planted a tree in the community, saying that planting symbolizes the Jewish people’s roots in the land of Israel.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUYU-H4fXUo&feature=player_embedded
“I believe that Karnei Shomron is very important for the safety and security of the State of Israel and should be kept in our hands in any future settlement or peace treaty with the Palestinians,” Shalom told IsraelNationalNews during the visit.
Referring to the Palestinian Authority’s plan to a unilateral declaration of a state at the United Nations, Shalom said that such unilateral moves “will never bring any kind of solution to the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. If we want to make progress we should negotiate with one another.”
He added that “during the last two and a half years, [the Palestinian Authority has] been making every effort to prevent resumption of negotiations. Unfortunately they’ve succeeded until recently, but now we’re trying to make sure that most Western countries vote against that idea (of a Palestinian state –ed.). If they do so, I think even if there’s a majority, it won’t bring any Palestinian state.”
The Vice Prime Minister also addressed the issue of, saying he is against the idea that some Judea and Samaria communities will not remain in Israeli hands as part of a peace agreement. He emphasized that “this is not the attitude or ideology of the Likud party.”
Finally, Shalom spoke of the Freedom Flotilla II, saying “it doesn’t come here for humanitarian reasons. http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/145496
“The economic standard of living in Gaza is very high,” he emphasized. “The growth last year was 16%, and every day more than 200 trucks come into Gaza from the Israeli side. We are able to give them much more but they are not willing to take it, because they would like to keep the smuggling industry that will enable them to continue to smuggle all kinds of weapons which will be used in the future against innocent Israeli civilians.”
PA to Ask UN to Declare Jewish Yesha Communities Illegal
by Elad Benari
December 30, 2010, Tevet 23, 5771
Officials in the Palestinian Authority said on Wednesday that the PA plans to ask the United Nations Security Council in the next few days to declare the Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria illegal and demand a halt to construction of new Jewish homes in these areas.
The Associated Press obtained a draft of the resolution and made some of its contents public on Wednesday.
According to the AP report, the resolution “Reaffirms that the Israeli settlements established in the Palestinian Territory occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem, are illegal and constitute a major obstacle to the achievement of a just, lasting and comprehensive peace...”
The resolution that goes on to demand that “Israel, the occupying Power, immediately and completely ceases all settlement activities in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and that it fully respect all of its legal obligations in this regard...” http://www.israelnationalnews.com/Articles/Article.aspx/9880
The draft, dated December 21, does not call for sanctions to be taken against Israel but rather “Urges in this regard the intensification of international and regional diplomatic efforts to support and invigorate the peace process towards the achievement of a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the Middle East.”
A senior PA official told AP on condition of anonymity that the conciliatory language in the draft was added in hopes of winning U.S. support.
So far, however, the proposal has received a cool reception in Washington, with State Department spokesman Mark Toner saying on Wednesday that while the U.S. agrees that continued construction in Judea and Samaria would be “corrosive” to peace efforts, it also believes that negotiations are the only way to achieve peace.
“We therefore consistently oppose any attempt to take final status issues to the (Security) Council,” said Toner. “Such efforts do not move us closer to our goal of two states living side by side in peace and security.”
Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor said in response to the draft that “By choosing unilateralism over direct talks, the Palestinians are declaring that they renounce peace altogether. They are trying everything except to talk.”
While even PA officials acknowledge that moves such as the draft resolution will have little impact, they have admitted that they want the world to send a tough message to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, who they believe is not serious about pursuing peace.
As PA representative at the U.N., Riyad Mansour, said, the new resolution resembles previous ones, but that the timing is important.
“The entire world knows that the settlements are the major obstacle before a peace deal,” he told AP. “This resolution doesn't include sanctions, but it would form political pressure on Israel to implement the two-state solution.”
Netanyahu: Stop Picking on Settlers; They Deserve a Normal Life
by Gil Ronen
October 4, 2010, Tishrei 26, 5771
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu voiced support Monday for one of the most viciously maligned populations in the world – the Jews who live in Judea and Samaria. The settlers “deserve to live a normal life like anyone else,” Netanyahu said, “and this is our policy, too – to make sure they can live normal lives.”
"The most difficult decision we took was the decision to suspend new construction in Judea and Samaria for ten months. The settlers in Judea and Samaria have been under unjustified attack for almost half a century,” he said.
Netanyahu said that his government carried out the ten-month freeze on Jewish construction despite the difficulty this involved, but also noted that Israel now has “a vital interest” in continuing the negotiations with the Palestinian Authority. Israel is conducting “sensitive” diplomatic contacts with the U.S., he said, in order to find a solution that would make it possible to continue the talks.
"This is not the time to make proclamations,” Netanyahu said, in a hint probably directed at nationalist leaders, settlers and the news media. “We have no interest in causing tempests, and I cannot deny every false report that appears in the media." Israel, he added, will quietly find a solution to the complex situation, “far from the spotlights.”
London-based Arab newspaper A-Sharq Al-Awsat reported Monday that Netanyahu has agreed to extend the building freeze in Judea and Samaria for another period of time, but that he has made certain conditions. The newspaper said Netanyahu wants “permission” to continue building projects that have been started in the few days that have passed since the ten-month freeze expired. He also reportedly wants a guarantee that he will not be asked for any further freeze periods after that one.

Freeze is Over: Construction in Yesha Resumes
by Hillel Fendel
September 27, 2010, Tishrei 19, 5771
Anti-climax: The construction freeze in Jewish towns in Judea and Samaria ended at midnight, but construction is resuming slowly, due to the Sukkot holiday.
Jewish building teams are or have been at work in only two locations as of now, Monday morning: At Joseph’s Tomb in Shechem and in the city of Ariel.
Work at Joseph’s Tomb actually started on Saturday night. A new, five-ton gravestone was placed on the site, with the help of cranes, atop the exact spot on which the original stone was vandalized and destroyed by Arabs over the course of the past years.
In Ariel, the 4th largest city in Judea and Samaria with some 17,000 residents, work began this morning on more than 50 new housing units. The new homes have been designated for the former residents of Netzarim, who have been displaced since the Disengagement/Expulsion of 2005. Defense Minister Ehud Barak refused to make an exception in their case, and the freeze thus applied to their new homes as well.
Itzik Vazana of Netzarim-Ariel told Israel National News, “The bulldozers are here, clearing the area – literally starting from scratch. We don’t view this as a time for celebrations, but rather as a time to get to work. Hopefully, with G-d’s help, in a few months or less we will be able to see the foundations of our new homes.”
The new neighborhood is breaking new ground south of the mostly east-west city of Ariel. Work on the 60 or so units is expected to take a year and a half.
In Revavah, a community of 250 families northwest of Ariel, hundreds of celebrants let off balloons, cheered and sang to mark the end of the government-imposed moratorium on construction work.
Thousands of youths of the religious Ezra youth movement set off on a “settlement renewal” march throughout Samaria. They will gather towards evening in the town of Yakir, where they will mark the end of the construction freeze with a gala ceremony. Science Minister Rabbi Dr. Daniel Herskovitz will participate, as will Shomron Regional Council head Gershon Mesika.
They will also hold a memorial for Avishai Shindler, a former Ezra youth counselor who was murdered in a terrorist attack south of Hevron three weeks ago.
Canine Legion Protects Jewish Property from Arab Squatters
by Yoni Kempinski
May 23, 2010, Sivan 10, 5770
A fierce attack by a large dog on a Jewish property in Jerusalem, as seen in the video, is just an exercise, but the fact that it is being held there is part of a long-time struggle for a Jewish presence on a Jewish-owned property.
The Jewish Canine Legion in Israel has been active in helping Yitzchak Herskovitz access his property in Jerusalem after years of delays. Now that he finally has secured his legal rights to return to his property and Arab squatters have left, representatives of the organization remain on the land adjacent to his property, controlling the path that leads up to his house.
The activists explain that they come to the house in order to make a Jewish presence felt until the police are willing do whatever is necessary to protect Herskovitz from the Arab squatters and others who, according to testimonies in the field, are threatening his life and the free access to his home.
The Jewish Canine Legion is considering whether to set up a branch on the property not only to service Herskovitz's security needs but also to help train others on Jewish communities in southern Jerusalem and in the Gush Etzion Bloc.
The unit reports that its dogs have prevented eight infiltrations this year into Elazar, in Gush Etzion, less than 10 minutes south of Jerusalem.

Extra opmerking hierbij:
PA-childeren to fire celebratory shots - IDF to hold its fire
8 november 2011
by Hillel Fendel
The IDF may order its forces in Judea and Samaria to hesitate before opening fire on terror suspects in the days before Rosh Hashanah. The reason: Id el-Fitr, the Muslim holiday that ends the month of Ramadan.
Military officials say that during these days, Palestinian children may shoot weapon-like toys and set off firecrackers as part of the holiday tradition. Each year, the Ramadan month generally is a period characterized by a raising of security alerts, particularly in Judea and Samaria.
To avoid harming innocent people, mostly children of PA Arabs a Judea and Samaria, officials revealed that security forces were currently taking extreme care with regard to the rules of engagement.
Multiple cases of Arab stone-throwing at Israeli vehicles were reported this week, injuring at least one Israeli citizen. The most serious attack came on Tuesday night, when four Molotov cocktails were thrown at Israeli vehicles near the separation barrier. No injuries were reported, but damage was caused to the vehicles.
The IDF also ordered soldiers not to eat, drink, or smoke in front of Muslim Arabs during the Ramadan period, in order not to incite them. During Ramadan, Arabs fast during the day and eat at night.
Samaria Mayor: Our Case Against Destruction is Just
by Hillel Fendel
08-04-2010 / Nisan 24, 5770
With less than a month to go, residents of Eli in the Shomron (Samaria) hope the Supreme Court will decide not to allow the destruction of the homes of fallen war heroes Ro'i Klein and Eliraz Peretz.
The Supreme Court demanded that the State provide a report on the situation regarding the homes following a petition brought by the radical Peace Now organization. Peace Now demanded that the small neighborhood in Eli be razed because it is "illegal" in that the homes are located on private Arab land; the residents and township say such claims are nonsense.
Among the 24 families living in the HaYovel neighborhood are the widows and small children of Ro'i Klein and Eliraz Peretz, both of whom were killed in clashes with the enemy while serving in the Israel Defense Forces. Klein was killed in the summer of 2006, during the Second Lebanon War. While fighting for control of the hostile village of Bint Jbil in southern Lebanon, Maj. Klein and his men were ambushed by Hizbullah terrorists. At one point, Klein began treating one of his wounded comrades, at which point a terrorist hurled a grenade at the group. Ro'i yelled out "Shma Yisrael" and jumped upon the grenade, absorbing the brunt of the explosion, saving the men around him, and breathing his last a few seconds later.
Peretz was killed less than two weeks ago in a clash with Moslem Arab terrorists in Gaza.
The mayor of Eli, Kobi Eliraz, told Arutz-7 on Wednesday that, based on the facts alone, he expects the Supreme Court to reconsider the scheduled destruction. "The homes of the Peretz and Klein families, just like the others in the neighborhood, are located on land owned by the State of Israel," Eliraz said.
"No Palestinians Other Than Peace Now Claim This Land"
"This is nothing more than a political petition," he added, "and we are certain that we are in the right. The homes are on state-owned lands, and there is not one Palestinian, aside from Peace Now, who claims these lands as his own."
"The Peace Now petition is based solely on the findings of the Talia Sasson report of 2005," Eliraz said, "which is a report with no validity at all." Sasson, long known for her left-wing views – she ran for Knesset on the Meretz party list in 2009 – was asked by then-Prime Minister Ariel Sharon to prepare a report on the "illegal outposts in Judea and Samaria." Often cited as being one-sided and biased, her report claimed that despite instrumental aid provided by the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Housing and Construction and the World Zionist Organization, the outposts should be considered illegal.
Science Minister Rabbi Prof. Daniel Herskowitz said at a Cabinet session on the report that “if you look at the outposts, you’ll see that their classification as illegal was made by Talia Sasson, who is not exactly an objective source. Often, the only reason for an outpost’s classification as illegal is not because of the residents themselves, but because of a technical government problem, and there is truly no legal problem at all.”
Mayor: Petition is Immoral
Mayor Eliraz said that Peace Now's petition is immoral: "This neighborhood was built in the State of Israel's Jubilee year, and that's why it's called HaYovel [Jubilee]. The Klein and Peretz families are perfect examples of the type of people who live here; they sense that they are on a national mission, and they include military men, public figures and of course Torah scholars. Suddenly, someone gets up and decides that it's an illegal outpost; this is not ethical. And the fact that two of those living here fell on behalf of the State of Israel merely intensifies our feelings. We hope that in three weeks, the Supreme Court will accept the State's response on this matter, and that the homes will finally receive their final authorization."
Yitzhar Resident Escapes Arab Mob Attack
by Hana Levi Julian
10 april 2010
A resident of the Jewish community of Yitzhar in Samaria escaped a mob attack Thursday afternoon near the Arab village of Burin.
The resident, Yossi Paylent, was stuck in his car near the Yitzhar Junction, when the attack occurred. His vehicle was suddenly surrounded by a mob of some 20 villagers from Burin, who began to hurl large rocks at the vehicle.
Some of the rocks which are hurled at Israeli drivers by Arab attackers on the roads of Judea and Samaria are the size of oranges and larger, with sharp, irregular edges, comprised of the rosy hard, quartz-like material known as Jerusalem stone. They can be as deadly as any bullet, and are wielded in precisely the same manner, with the same intent.
Paylent said that he dispersed the mob by firing shots in the air with his personal weapon. He said the attackers did not leave the scene altogether but the arrival of another Israeli vehicle at the spot where he apparently ran out of gas also made the attackers move back a little. Paylent said the Arabs did flee to Burin 20 minutes later, when soldiers arrived at the scene. He added that he was surprised that the soldiers did not chase after them, but figures they were given orders not to.
In two separate incidents earlier in the day, Palestinian Authority Arabs hurled rocks at Israelis in vehicles traveling near the Judean Jewish community of Tekoa, located in eastern Gush Etzion. No one was injured in the attacks, but the vehicles were damaged. IDF troops set out to search for the attackers.
Tekoa is nestled in the foothills near the Herodion, where King Herod's tomb was discovered.
