Two children among hurt in multiple terror attack; six dead

Ei-bus - terreuraanslag Eilat When Arab terrorists chalk up their day's "victory" against Israeli     civilians they will be able to count two young children, ages 4 and 7, among Thursday's wounded. Two people died in the attacks against Egged Bus # 392 from Mitzpe Ramon to Eilat and a second bus. Four others were killed when a vehicle ran over a roadside bomb planted to maximize damage as IDF soldiers raced to the scene to defend and assist those who were hurt in the attacks.  http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/seven-killed-in-series-of-terrorist-attacks-in-southern-israel-1.379309

The little ones were among the 33 Israelis initially taken to Eilat's small local Yoseftal Medical Center -- the closest hospital -- following the quadruple terrorist attack in Israel's southern region. Seven of the most severely wounded were later airlifted to Be'er Sheva's Soroka Medical Center.

Israeli radio stations spent the afternoon updating news reports and playing Israeli Zionist songs, a sign of national sadness in the Jewish State.

Israel has meanwhile taken the nation to its highest terror alert following the attacks, which took place along its border with Egypt's Sinai Peninsula. The terrorists apparently used automatic, anti-tank weapons, mortars and roadside bombs in the attacks that targeted on two Israeli buses and civilians and military vehicles.

All non-Palestinian Authority Arab United Nations personnel have allegedly been evacuated from Gaza due to fears that Israel will retaliate for the attack. Egypt reportedly has also closed the Rafiah crossing with Gaza.

Analysts speculate that the international Al Qaeda terrorist organization may have been involved in the multi-site operation due to its complexity and the fact that Egypt recently began to crack down on Bedouin and terrorist activities in the Sinai Peninsula, where the organization has developed training bases. The region has become a lawless territory since the fall of former President Hosni Mubarak during the Tahrir Square Revolution that swept the country earlier this year.

"It is unbelievable -- the fence is several yards from the highway and when we were there on a field trip we saw a lone Egyptian guard in a tower, really less than 100 yards from the road," said an American immigrant who spoke with Arutz Sheva Thursday afternoon following the attacks.

The source, who requested anonymity, was blunt. "There is no problem to attack the highway from the Egyptian side, even with an M-16 rifle, let alone with a missle," he added.

Two weeks ago, terrorists from the Egyptian side shot and hit the jeep of a reserve battalion commander. The commander was not injured -- but the jeep was attacked from the Egyptian side of the border, according to security sources.

IDF soldiers located and killed seven terrorists who were responsible for Thursday afternoon's attack on the two Egged buses outside Eilat, security sources said. However, IDF soldiers continued to comb the area for the terrorists who carried out the attack on the civilian and military vehicles, reportedly a group consisting of 20 terrorists.

Muslim Brotherhood Comes Closer to Power as Israel's Neighbor
by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu
6 februari 2011, Adar 2, 5771

The radical Muslim Brotherhood, technically an illegal party in Egypt, took a giant step towards becoming a powerful force on Israel’s southern border as it joins negotiations with Cairo's newly-appointed vice president Omar Suleiman.

The prospect of Lebanon’s being a puppet government for Hizbullah, Egypt coming under the influence of the Muslim Brotherhood, and Yemen ceding power to radical Islamic groups has made problems for U.S. counterterrorism efforts, according to the Associated Press.

It reported that “lingering confusion over who will take the reins of power” may interfere with near-term decisions while leaving long-term decisions on hold because of worrying uncertainty and instability.

As Egypt re-opened its banks and returned to a more normal work routine on the 13th day of protests Sunday, Muslim Brotherhood spokesman Essam el-Erian said the group’s joining negotiations does not mean that it is backing down from its demand that Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak step down. They are not satisfied with his declaration that he will not run again for president in September.

The Brotherhood said one day earlier that it would not negotiate until Mubarak leaves, an ultimatum that passed uneventfully after being issued by protest leader Mohammed ElBaradei last week.  http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/142044

Opposition groups have stated that they will accept nothing less than Mubarak’s resignation and that his appointment of Suleiman as his first-ever vice president is a cosmetic move. "The so-called dialogue is the first step to exhaust this revolution. The president must go," said Mohammed Habib, deputy chairman of the Muslim Brotherhood.

ElBaradei, a leftist party called Tagammu, a liberal party and the Muslim Brotherhood formally joined as an opposition group against the Mubarak-Suleiman regime.

Mubarak continues in his position as president after withstanding enormous pressure from unprecedented street demonstrations against him. Approximately 100 – some reports says 300 – protesters were killed by riot police, and thousands were wounded in clashes until Mubarak called off the police last week.

He refused to resign despite awkward pressure by the Obama administration, which said it was not telling Egypt what to do but made it clear that immediate change is necessary.

It is "important to follow the transition process announced by the Egyptian government, actually headed by Vice President Omar Suleiman, said  U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Saturday, virtually ousting him from power. U.S. President Barack Obama told foreign leaders of the need for the Egyptian government to be "responsive to the aspirations of the Egyptian people."

Wikileaks Exposes Truth: Arab States Fear Iran, Not Israel
29 november 2010

. Netanyahu: Time for Arab world to speak openly about Iran threat
. Iranian missiles could strike European capitals
. Iran also backing Terrorist Groups in Yemen

Washington, Nov 27 – Publication of some 250,000 classified diplomatic cables by the Wikileaks website has exposed the fact that Arab states see Iran and its nuclear weapons program and not Israel as the real threat to Middle East stability and their own security.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the documents reinforced what Israel has been saying for years about the Iranian nuclear program.

“More and more countries, governments and leaders in the Middle East and the wider world understand that this is the fundamental threat,” Netanyahu said at a news conference in Tel Aviv. “I hope the leaders will have the courage to say to their nations publicly what they’ve said about Iran.”  http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-11-29/netanyahu-says-wikileaks-should-spur-arab-warnings-about-iran.html

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad responded that the leaks were deliberately released as part of a psychological warfare campaign against his country. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/nov/29/wikileaks-claims-psychological-warfare-ahmadinejad

But an analysis from Reuters puts the truth in stark terms: “The revelation confirm the depth of suspicion and hatred of the Shi'ites among Sunni Arab leaders, especially in Saudi Arabia, the leading Sunni power and which regards Iran as an existential threat.”

"Iran should take note of the distress that its nuclear program is causing in the region -- this is not something that should be ignored," said Salman Shaikh, director of the Brookings Doha Center.

In one key document King Hamad of Bahrain “argued forcefully for taking action to terminate the Iranian nuclear program, by whatever means necessary. "That program must be stopped," he said. "The danger of letting it go on is greater than the danger of stopping it," he said. http://af.reuters.com/article/energyOilNews/idAFLDE6AS03L20101129

“The cables reveal how Iran’s ascent has unified Israel and many longtime Arab adversaries — notably the Saudis — in a common cause,” The New York Times said. “The United States had put together a largely silent front of Arab states whose positions on sanctions and a potential attack looked much like Israel’s.”  http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/29/world/middleeast/29iran.html?hp

Among the important revelations in the documents, as published by The New York Times, The Guardian and Der Spiegel are the following:

  • Saudi King Abdullah repeatedly urged the United States to destroy the Iranian program. “He told you [Americans] to “cut off the head of the snake,” the Saudi ambassador to Washington, Adel al-Jubeir said, according to a report on Abdullah's meeting with the U.S. general David Petraeus in April 2008. Abdullah told a US diplomat: "The bottom line is that they (the Iranians) cannot be trusted." http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/nov/28/us-embassy-cables-saudis-iran

  • Officials from Jordan also called for the Iranian program to be stopped by any means necessary while leaders of the United Arab Emirates and Egypt referred to Iran as “evil,” and an “existential threat.” http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/nov/28/us-embassy-cables-saudis-iran

  • Iran has obtained advanced missiles from North Korea that could let it strike at Western European capitals and Moscow. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/29/world/middleeast/29iran.html?_r=2&hp

  • Crown Prince bin Zayed of Abu Dhabi said in one cable: “Any culture that is patient and focused enough to spend years working on a single carpet is capable of waiting years and even decades to achieve even greater goals.” His greatest worry, he said, “is not how much we know about Iran, but how much we don’t.”
  • Kuwait's military intelligence chief told Petraeus Iran was supporting Shi’ite groups in the Gulf and extremists in Yemen.

  • The United States failed to stop Syria from supplying arms to Iranian-backed Hezbollah terrorists in Lebanon, who have amassed tens of thousands of rockets aimed at Israel. One week after Syrian President Bashar al-Assad promised a top State Department official that he would not send new arms to Hezbollah, the United States it had information that Syria was providing increasingly sophisticated weapons to the group.
  • Iran smuggled weapons to Hezballah in ambulances and medical vehicles in violation of international conventions. Hamas also used such vehicles for military and arms-smuggling operations. Iran withheld from the International AtomicEnergy Agency the original design documents for a secret nuclear reactor.

Death Sentence for Mumbai Terrorist
by Hana Levi Julian
May 6 '10, Iyar 22, 5770

The lone surviving terrorist in the November 2008 Mumbai massacre was sentenced to death on Thursday by an Indian judge for his role in the massive terrorist attack, one of the worst in the history of India.

During the three-day ordeal, 166 people were slaughtered and more than 300 were wounded. Six of the dead were Jews who were at the Nariman Jewish Center Chabad House, a target specifically chosen by terrorists. (Photos of the scene may be viewed by clicking here

WARNING: The photos are graphic, and reveal in detail the violence at the scene. Israel news photo, below: ZAKA)

Among the victims were the center's directors, Chabad-Lubavitch emissaries Rabbi Gabriel and Mrs. Rivka Holtzberg. The couple's two-year-old son Moishe was rescued by his Indian nanny, Sandra, who hid in a closet for hours until the terrorists had moved into another part of the building, then gathered the toddler in her arms and fled. Moishe and his nanny were subsequently brought by his maternal grandparents back to Israel, where Rivka herself was born and raised.

Israel National News produced a special tribute to honor the Holtzbergs and their guests. The page may be accessed by clicking here

Justice M.L. Tahaliyani handed down his verdict three days after the surviving terrorist, Mohammed Ajmal Kasab, was convicted of murder and waging war against the nation. Death sentences in India are carried out by hanging. Special prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam said Wednesday that the execution could be delayed by up to a year.

No decision has yet been reached on whether Kasab will appeal the sentence.

The attacks were launched simultaneously by a team of ten young men armed with assault rifles, who began firing at passersby and guests in the two largest and most venerable luxury hotels in India's financial capital, a crowded train station, and Nariman House.

Kasab, who has confessed to being a member of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taibe terrorist organization, was convicted of brutally murdering and wounding dozens of passersby at the train station. His defense attorney argued that he was pressured by the group into carrying out the attack.

The United States is also currently investigating the possibility that the Lashkar-e-Taibe terrorist group was involved in the recent failed car bombing attempt in New York City's Times Square.

Muslim group calls textbooks discriminatory
Jon Hurdle
PHILADELPHIA
March 17

PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - Muslim activists launched a campaign on Wednesday against a series of educational books that they say promote anti-Islamic sentiment among U.S. school children.

"The World of Islam," a 10-book series, encourages young readers to believe Muslims are terrorists and seek to undermine U.S. society, said the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the nation's largest Muslim advocacy organization.

One book contains the passage: "For the first time, Muslims began immigrating to the U.S. in order to transform American society, sometimes through the use of terrorism."

Moein Khawaja, civil rights director for CAIR in Pennsylvania, said the group has gotten dozens of complaints about the books from Muslim parents around the country.

He said he was not aware of any discrimination against Muslim children due to the books, which are intended for middle- and high-school students.

The books were published in late 2009 by Mason Crest Publishers of Broomall, Pennsylvania, which worked with the Philadelphia-based Foreign Policy Research Institute to ensure their accuracy. It was unclear if the books are in use in any schools.

Khawaja said at a news conference that the books are "rife with incorrect information and fear-mongering" and called the FPRI a "pro-war think tank that has vigorously advocated for the Iraq war in the past and continues to defend that position."

INSTITUTE DISAGREES

Founded in 1955, the institute says on its website it is a non-profit group devoted to research on international affairs. It counted among its board members Alexander Haig, U.S. secretary of state under President Ronald Reagan, who recently died.

FPRI vice president Alan Luxenberg denied the books were anti-Islamic.

"This assertion is without basis, and there is no better way to ascertain the truth than to read the books," the institute said in a press release.

Luxenberg said the terrorism quote had been taken out of context and that it followed five pages on the history of Muslim immigration to the United States that said only some U.S. Muslims became radicalized, starting in the 1980s.

Luxenberg is the author of one of the books, "Radical Islam," the cover of which features a machine gun and a Muslim head scarf, with what looks like bloodstains underneath the scarf and the title word "Radical."

In its defense, the institute noted a quote in "Radical Islam" that reads: "The Western world must ally itself with the Muslim world in the war on radical Islam."

The series also includes "Islam in Europe" which Khawaja said accuses Muslims of being "the source of all social conflict" on the continent. A chronology in that volume shows the history of Muslims in Europe as a series of terrorist and extremist events, he said.

CAIR called on schools and libraries to exchange "The World of Islam" for "Introducing Islam," another series published by Mason Crest that Khawaja said was written in cooperation with scholars of Islam and is more accurate.

Critics have accused CAIR of being a front for the Palestinian Hamas faction and of receiving funding from the Arab world.

Ottawa: Anti-Semites Attempt Machete Murder of Israel Supporters

by Gil Ronen
10 april 2010

Machete Attack against Zionists An apparent attempted murder of pro-Israel students was reported in In Ottawa, Canada, on Monday. Two students – one Israeli and the other pro-Israel – were assaulted by a group of about 10 people, one of whom hurled a machete that just missed the head of one of the victims.

The Ottawa Citizen reported that the incident took place near a bar in the Gatineau area at about 2:00 a.m. Monday.

Nick Bergamini, 22, vice-president of the Carleton University Students’ Association, and his Israeli roommate Mark Klibanov, 20, were leaving the Le Volt bar on Promenade du Portage when the group of anti-Semites began yelling at them in English and Arabic, calling them 'Zionists' and 'Jews.'

Bergamini said he recognized one of the assailants as a student at Carleton University. “I told them not to do this because I knew who they were, but I got hit hard on the back of the head. We ran to the bar entrance because bar security was there.”

'Open the trunk'

Once the crowd that surrounded them had dispersed, the two men decided to walk across the Chaudière Bridge to Ottawa. As they walked through a parking lot, however, a car with three men inside pulled up beside them.

“One of them rolled down the window and said: ‘I am the one who hit you, you f------ Jew,’” Bergamini told the Citizen. “Two guys came out of the car, and one of them tried to kick my roommate. One attacker said, ‘Open the trunk,’ and another guy pulled out a machete that glinted in the street lights. I yelled that they had weapons, and we started running as fast as we could. I saw the guy wind up with the machete as I looked back.”

Klibanov said the machete missed the back of Bergamini's head by about a foot as they ran across the bridge to Ottawa and escaped their assailants.

Gatineau officials confirmed that police were investigating the attack, but provided no further details.

Jason MacDonald, a spokesman for the University, said: “The Israel and Palestine issue is one of the things that can cause people to become emotional. Our job is to make sure that these debates can happen without anyone’s personal safety being threatened. We have met with student groups on both sides of such issues and told them that we are not here to tell them what to think, but certain kinds of behavior are not acceptable.”

Bergamini said he is well-known on campus for being pro-Israel and that he has a pro-Israel Facebook page.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvVXJaASp64

Historische achtergrond van Valentijn, volgens Wikipedia

Valentinus

Openlijke liefdesuitingen waren in deze preutse tijd 'not done'.
